My twins are turning 7 in February. I hit the jackpot and got one of each. One and done.
Couple of things that kept us sane:
- We had in-law help for the first year. Either my mom, her mom, or her grandmother were here during the week 5 times a week to help out. We were able to sustain that for a year and save a ton of $$ on childcare. Yes it sucked because of all the ppl in the house but the 1:1 ratio sucks more.
- We found it very helpful to keep them on the same schedule. If Baby A wakes up to eat, wake up Baby B. Found we got more sleep that way.
- My wife found a twin mom group on FB. As dumb as it sounds, they actually were a lot of help. They would drop off food every now and then and the wife wound up making some good connections that could give her better support than I could. We found our baby sitter through the group, too. I wound up being a good support system for the first year. We wound up staying in the group a hand full of years to pass on the good karma.
- Get into a routine and don't break it. EVER.
- Whatever baby widget you think you need... you don't. just put it into diapers.
- Have fun. They grow up fast and you'll never get the time back. You'll blink, they're 7, and you'll wonder where those years went.
