What do you do if offered the following trip:

— 2 tournament rounds at Pinehurst #2 ($10,000 cash prizes)
— 1 non-tournament round at any Pinehurst course
— Room (double occupancy) paid for
— Meals for 5 day trip paid for
— Free ASICS shoes, Srixon gloves, Srixon balls
— Out of pocket costs of about $1,000 for air fair, shuttle to and from airport to Pinehurst and miscellaneous souvenirs

Here’s the kicker, the trip is Jan. 29th - Feb. 2nd. As good as all the above sounds, I just can’t see committing to the trip this far in advance when there is no guarantee the weather is going to be decent enough to even enjoy the golf.

I’d round up my wife and kids, make the trip, and then make an arse of myself at the tournament.

This sounds like a good deal

Can’t bring the spouse . . . I asked.

The double-occupancy is you and whomever you end up getting paired with. Also, all the meals are paid for just the player. No option to buy extra meal.

It is walking only, so you’d probably have another $300 in caddie fees.

Not worried about the money . . . more concerned about getting stuck for 5 days with shitty winter weather and not getting to play golf. It may end up as 5 days of getting Srixon sunshine thrown at me. It is a trip for Srixon reps and the one at our club can’t go, but if they don’t use the trip then they won’t get an invite next year.

If it was anywhere from April - November on the calendar, it would be a no-brainer.

I passed it on to a younger guy that will be able to handle the cold weather better. I used to be able to handle it better, but the older I get the less I can tolerate playing when it’s below 40 degrees. Told him he better bring me back a nice Pinehurst shirt.

I would be there in a heartbeat. Also fairly young and the cold probably wouldn’t bother me. Sneak in a couple extra rounds at mid pines, pine needles, tobacco etc

ETA: and that time of the year you could probably fly in/out of Raleigh and find a way to make a duke/unc/wake/hurricanes game happen

I'd take a gamble and go for it. You can't predict the weather, so don't try.

Hell, I'm in the deer stand sweating in Dec. 4. Who would have guessed.
