They do garner a lot of support, but as mentioned they were on an upswing but that has been in a serious decline since Skip left for USF. Not to mention we played them in Charlotte this season and I was surprised by the lack of ECU fans there. They filled out their lower section but SC filled out our lower section, our upper section, and the majority of their upper section. Surprising considering SC has only about 3,000 more students than ECU.

opens up a market in a very populated state of NC. Opinions?

Why do you care about what markets would be opened?

TV money is the main reason to do it. And NC actually has decent high school football.

ECU has few fans at this time though. NC is the one.

To summarize from what I've seen various individuals propose as schools worthy of consideration. In no particular order:

Missouri
Oklahoma State
Texas Tech
Baylor
TCU
SMU
Wake Forest (i.e., no religious affiliated schools)
Houston
Memphis
Louisville (i.e., no city schools)
Southern Miss (unless you kick out OM or MSU)
Florida State
Miami
Clemson
Georgia Tech
West Virginia
Maryland
East Carolina
UL-Lafayette

Others?
Tulane

the only school with 'carolina' in its name the sec should consider is the university of north carolina at chapel hill. otherwise, fuggeddaboudit.

West virginia would be a slam dunk over ecu, just cause they had a couple good seasons doesn't mean they deserved to be considered, if it's really about money clemson and florida state are our best options

In theory, I'm not totally opposed to East Carolina in the SEC, because I do think they have potential. People have seriously mentioned NC state but ECU has beaten 6 out of the last 10 times. They're probably the second best college football program in North Carolina. Problem is, that doesn't say much.

My view is, let them build themselves up the way West Virginia has first and we'll look again in 5-10 years if we expand to 16. My attitude is, you've got to prove your worth to some degree before we let you in the SEC. It can't be totally based on what they could be in 15-20 years.

nope. nc state is third fiddle to unc and duke. they have no fans, pathetic football program and a basketball program that's been dead for 20+ years. also a member of the unc system, so it would be impossible for them to leave.

who the hell mentioned us as a possibility to go to the SEC? I don't go on here much so this is a serious question. If someone actually suggested this, I want to see that thread.

What about East Carolina in the SEC?

Why are we relegated to considering suck-arse schools?

Why is it that the B1G sits there and just adds major programs (Penn State, Nebraska), and contemplates adding major programs (Notre Dame) while the SEC looks at crap like Mizzou, WVU, and what now, East Carolina???

Are you kidding me?

Why can't we talk about adding MAJOR programs to the conference?

I'm just sick of seeing everyone so willing to settle for second rate programs.

Can they get rid of that cheesy Long John Silver mascot, and that awful midfield logo that encompasses half the field? Sounds directional and non-flagship too...most people don't know if they are in North or South Carolina.

They have more fans than Duke, but everything else you said is at least partially true.
