that only allows for 8 conference games in a 16 team conference. what would be the point of a being affiliated in a conference if you only played a little more than half the teams?

the scheduling is why I don't want expansion

if they do four divisions and somehow convince the NCAA to sign off on a two round conference playoff then that will make for 10 conference games against SEC opponents - years ago SEC teams might only play 5 or 6 games in conference

The SEC just shouldn't expand if they think expansion means you have to play everyone on a regular basis - the best you can do is play your regional/historical rivals every year and the more distant teams at least a couple times every 6 years. And after all - playing the more distant teams a couple times every 6 years is pretty much what LSU already does against teams like Tenn, UGA, USC, and Kentucky

Yeah, Dice converted me to his idea of:
quote:

1 - OU, OSU, MO, Arky

2 - LSU, Ole Miss, MSU, A&M

3 - AL, AU, TN, Vandy

4 - FL, GA, SC, KT

the scheduling is why i don't see 16 team conferences happening. the amount of games that teams would have to play would have to increase significantly to justify the number of mouths to feed in the conference. especially if those additional mouths to feed are large programs with bloated athletic departments to fund.

There should not be divisions. Shouldn't have situations like mlb east last year where a team with a better record misses out on playoffs (seccg) I want to see lsu and bama play when one teams only loss is to the other. I want to see an iron bowl or cocktail party seccg. Why should a 3 loss team (usc) get to play over a 1 loss team.

16 teams. No divisions.

revenue would have to increase significantly - but keep in mind that you would have more games even without increasing the number each team plays

Instead of 48 conference games per year (with 12 teams) you would have 64 (with 16 teams)

Now, the trick to making that more valuable to the networks is probably creative scheduling - if you can stagger the premiere in conference matchups (and avoid as many weeks with mismatches/unappealing games) then you have more of a good product to put on television.
