I actually think both conferences are potentially threatened by a strong ACC. The SEC should covet new markets in VA and NC and the following of Miami, Clemson, and Florida State. The ACC currently has 2/3 of the biggest programs in Florida.

The SEC should try to take Virginia Tech for a new marekt and the big ten should take Maryland to weaken the ACC. Then the SEC to get to 16 needs to try to get 2 out of three: Florida State, Clemson, and Miami to expand. I think due to hoops NC State would never leave behind, NC, Wake, and Duke.

Mizzou is a midwestern state or least huge parts of it are Midwestern so tell Mizzou to go the big ten so they have MD and MO for 14 teams and the SEC goes to 16.

BIG don't want Mizzou I think they'll go after them if the SEC pick up a 14th team.

strong in men's basketball but never in football. There isn't enough interest, as evidenced by the crowds at their conference championship games...

I have been very pro-WVU along these threads. That is mostly because I figure the ACC is locked down. In a perfect world, if I got my druthers, I'd like to see in the SEC as #14 one of these ACC cuties:
FSU
Clemson
UNC
GT
VT

If it came to a choice between stopping at 13, or adding either Mizzou or WVU, I come down on the side of adding WVU, for two reasons:
1. WVU has a pretty solid football program, fan base, and traditions very similar to the SEC. They are a small state, but do still provide an increased SEC footprint in WV and western PA, and have a fairly marketable brand image nationwide.
2. Mizzou is really mostly a midwestern school/state, has a mostly lukewarm football program/tradition, and really wants the B1G. They would leave the SEC in a heartbeat if the Ten came a'courtin'. I think the SEC would be foolish to set itself up for such an embarrassing inevitable defection.

Anyway, that's my 2 cents.
