We have our fair share of walmarks t-shirt and redneck fans contrary to the image the university would like to portray.

Dude, the entirety of East Texas from N to S fits that bill. As they wear your garb, there isn't a marketing plan in existence that will sway what actually exists inside the shirt. Kilgore, TX is the same as Austin, TX to these folk. Accept them, they're yours.

Fine, but let's not pretend that SEC schools do not have the same fandom from the uneducated masses.

They can take their ball and play in the Big 10 or ACC. It will stink for UT fans though not being able to drive to a single road game. Can you imagine not having a single driving option when playing an away game in your own conference.

This is the biggest problem with these giant arse conferences and it will be magnified if TX doesn't go with an OK, OSU, or TT. OK will find itself in pretty much the same situation. It will start to ware on some when OSU is the only reasonably close school. The travel culture in the SEC is important, and it's the reason I don't think we should expand broadly, but try to remain as compact as possible while adding TVs. If you're going to 16, add a couple of TX schools like A&M and TCU; get FL to accept FSU; and a NC or VA school. Adds a lot of population without stretching the boundaries to the point of ridiculousness.

I would love to see it. I don't think they could handle playing an SEC schedule over the whole season.

So, LSU does not have backwoods fans that didn't graduate high school?

I guess it's the old South thing.

a lot of the way southerners feel about each other can indeed be traced to the old south imo. the south and parts of tejas also was populated largely by the scot irish refugee from the old country and it was an agrarian society. when they banded together and fought the civil war a regional kinship was formed. after the war all southerners were, by and large, grouped together and labeled as one, in mind and thought. some people do this today even. in short, because of our homeland (and our accents) we have been often labeled as ignorant farmers (rednecks) and ridiculed. the general population was devastated by the war and had to make do to survive. the north louisiana redneck to the georgia cracker feels a kinship on a general type basis and have "banded together" because they had to. yes, those feelings spill over today, even in some parts of texas. texas was different though because the texas image was not as tarnished because they were western cowboys with oil money to burn. of course, this is all bull shite today but don't blame me for peoples pre-judgements. so, the sons of the south are now the great grand sons of the south and our commonality, while not any where near as strong as years ago, persists in some form. few "hate" yankees and none want the return of the culture prior to the civil war but we all stick together in battle. and football is our damn battle. so when georgia plays ohio state you can bet your arse i'm pulling for georgia to kick those yanks arse. and, most of my family is from ohio. go figure.
