The SEC now commands that money... but with a Big 16 and a Big 10 expansion, the SEC will no longer be able to command the top contract in football.

the SEC has a 15 year deal to ensure that there will be no change

you then said that we'd re-work a deal if we got TAMU, which is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT

What is wrong with you today? Is it 4:20 yet?

Expanding will mean a new contract.
Not expanding will mean the same contract.
There is no changing of arguments there.

But it doesn't mean we SHOULDN'T expand. It just means that IF we need to, we should do it carefully.

like if UT/TAMU go to the big10 and OU is left hanging? yeah then we swoop in

It is virtually guaranteed.

The present contract is a contract with 12 team SEC. A 14 or 16 team SEC would change the contract.

I really cannot see why you don't understand this basic thing... an expanded SEC would mean a greatly expanded market share while paying the same about of money.

If I have 12 hotels and you are a cleaning service and I pay you X amount of dollars to clean them. I then buy 2 or even 4 more hotels. We no longer have a contract for you to clean all of my hotels at the same price I was paying you to clean 12.

kinda simple really.

Basic contract law:

Contracts are often silent on the position of the parties in the event that something happens subsequent to the formation of a contract which renders its performance literally impossible, or only possible in a very different way from that originally contemplated. The doctrine of frustration operates to excuse from further performance where: (1) it appears from the nature of the contract and the surrounding circumstances that the parties have contracted on the basis that some fundamental thing or state of things will continue to exist, or that some particular person will continue to be available, or that some future event which forms the basis of the contract will take place; and (2) before breach, an event in relation to the matter stipulated in head (1) above renders performance impossible or only possible in a very different way from that contemplated.

SEC has flexibility in it's existing contract if it were to expand...thus - if a market like Texas were to be included into the mix a contract renegotiation would take place - thus same or probably more money for everyone. Plus - UT would then be free to establish their own UT Network - as long as it didn't interfere with the current TV contracts...national or regionally televised games. Basically a Tigervision on steroids showing all sports all the time...thus more money for UT as well as the SEC TV contract that would be shared. The UT Network does not that to share money.

why do we need to expand to 14-16 teams?

why do we need a new contract RIGHT NOW?
