Steadfastly against A&M, though I realize it's probably inevitable.

It allowed a CCG for the first time. That in itself was a huge moneymaker, and justified the move regardless of who was invited. All that was needed was two good quality schools with passionate fanbases. We both fit into the middle of the SEC, kind of like how A&M probably will competitively.

I agree with this. It was much more of a no brainer because of the championship game. The SEC was a pioneer and the SECCG has been a runaway success.

Sure, if superconferences never happen and the SEC is stuck at 13 while everyone else stops expanding.

But if in the long run superconferences are going to happen anyway, then we'll just be one step ahead of the game.

This is all a big game of chess. You gotta think 6 moves ahead.

5 years ago would you have guessed that the Pac 10 would make a power play for Oklahoma, Texas and Texas A&M?

Adding A&M may not make much sense in the very short term but it makes a lot more sense if you believe that 13 is just one step down the road to a superconference that will become the norm in the not so distant future.

I linked the same article on Hogville 2 weeks ago on it's press date.. That was a fun day, ha.

Arkansas wins either way this shakes out. However, as a College Football fan I do not want super conferences. I do not want an NFL system where teams are flying all over the country to play games their fans don't remotely live near.

Multiple 12 team conferences with conference championship games are the way to go. However, if the SEC wants to push for 16 teams they might be signing their own death warrant of dominance. Right now the SEC has the MOST NFL players per state of any conference.

IF.. the Pac12 adds, Texas, TTech, OU and OSU they will be on the exact level as the SEC.

I've done the math on Hogville. The number of NFL players coming out of the future Pac16 vs SEC16 is literally 200 difference while the Pac12 adds two Marquee name teams and the SEC could add 1 (FSU).

This puts the Pac16 on par with a SEC16 in terms of athletes, money and Marquee names.

The Pac12 could be the large winner so the SEC should be careful what they wish for...

Love this response to a detailed article that points out how A&M does not bring much extra $ to the SEC.

And I would say <50% are excited. In fact, I can't remember less fan enthusiasm over conference expansion.

My preference has always been for the SEC to stay at 12. If the "superconference" is really the next big thing and we are going to expand, then I think A&M is by far the best choice for us out there. After them, it gets really dicey as far as who to ask. The Pac-12/16 has much more to gain than we do from an expansion to superconferences.

The article in the OP doesn't seem very reliable since it is from someone with a pretty clear agenda.
