All the Big 12 has to do, though, is have a quick vote up those exit fees to something really painful.

Under the circumstances it may not hold up in court. And anyway, if they kicked out TAMU, they'd really have no basis to collect the fees.

edt: also given the uncertainty surrounding the conference, other schools may figure they're cutting their own wrists by raising the exit fees if they also decide to leave.

I do remember that the Big 12 hastily passed an exit fee clause when Missouri was flirting with the Big Ten almost a decade ago; Missouri was quiet for a few years. Not sure why something like this wouldn't hold up now. The Big 12 has the power to make it really painful for A&M to leave.

Yeah but now there may be more than 1 school looking at leaving. The conference is looking pretty shaky right now.

This:

He raised the idea that the Big 12 could pursue a stronger contractual pledge “because the one last summer wasn’t binding enough.”

implies that Beebe knows that A&M can get out without that much pain as long as they don't do something stupid legally. Also I seriously doubt the conference can impose terms on A&M without giving them the option to walk. A&M will never agree to these terms and Beebe knows it.

As I said, this rhetoric is not about, nor directed at, A&M. He's just using the situation to get the rest of the league to sign on to added penalties in some kind emotional appeal to unity. It's a long shot at best since those with options will resist. But when you're down by 6 with time running out, it's Bluegrass Miracle time.

Fact: the Big XII exit penalties are liquidated damage clauses in the Big XII by-laws.

They were not changed last year, although Beebe wanted to. The clauses are stiff, though: A&M
willy likely forfeit 90% of conference payout, unless those clauses are negotiated downwards, like Nebraska and Colorado did last year.

Why not hint around to Oklahoma and Oklahoma State that there would be room for them in the SEC. That way a jump in exit fees would be unlikely. With just the thought of jumping ship would likely keep Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Missouri from voting to up the exit fees. Since FSU is the only school in the ACC that really has any attraction, why not just take 3 from the Big 12. Offer Texas A&M, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma state. Missouri coul be a fall back option if one of the 3 above dont want to leave the Big 12.

The SEC would then have 16 teams. Change the divisions from East and West to North and South.

SEC South
Florida
Florida State
Alabama
Auburn
Miss State
Ole Miss
LSU
Texas A&M

SEC North
Oklahoma
Oklahoma State
Arkansas
Vandy
Tennessee
Georgia
Kentucky
South Carolina

Would Texas offer Beebe a million dollar bonus if he can keep any schools from leaving the Big 12?

So has Tejas not broken the contract with their television/high school game situation. Or have they not actually televised a game yet? If this is the case and the contract is void F'the fees.

If no contract has been broken and aTm leaves do we have a dollar amount?

Sorry, i'm trying to keep up and separate the bull shite from the facts, lol, td may be the wrong place for that.

So set a deadline. So what? What's he gonna do if A&M takes a big ole crap on his deadline? Hold his breath?

So what happens if Beebe sets a deadline and A&M says, "we'll make our decision when we decide to make it?" Is the Big 12 going to kick A&M out of the conference?

Great! Then A&M won't owe any exit fees (since the Big 12 terminated the partnership, not A&M) and within 72 hours (if not a whole lot sooner) A&M becomes the SEC's 13th member.
