All this realignment stuff is not about money, it's about...

making sure that no conference has a name that makes any sense any more...
The Big Ten has 12 teams.
The Big 12 has ten teams.
The Pac 12 (which, oddly, has 12 teams) has a team that is 1000 miles away from the Pacific Ocean.
The Big East is inviting teams from Idaho, Colorado and Texas.
East Carolina is joining a 22-team alliance that includes the Mountain West Conference.
The Southeastern Conference has added a team from Texas and is looking at teams from Missouri and West Virginia.
The Atlantic Coast Conference will add Pittsburgh, which will presumably only enhance the Steel City's growing reputation as a surfing and deep sea fishing destination.
The Western Athletic Conference is losing its only decent teams, and will be left with only Louisiana Tech, Idaho, Utah State, San Jose State, Texas State, Texas-San Antonio and New Mexico, but apparently still isn't changing its middle name.
The final two pieces of the puzzle will fall into place when two schools from Canada and Mexico join Conference USA

The Western Athletic Conference
Might as well complete that one. UTSA and SWT join next year. Doesn't change the idea of your post, just the team content.
