He can dominate the ACC. If he does that, he will be the coach for life at Ga. Tech. In fact, dominating your conference is the pinnacle that most programs can dream of. As great as Steve Spurrier was at Florida, he only won once NC. However, he dominated the SEC.

of course and that pretty much applies to any team.

no it isn't when you're talking about the triple option. the triple option has been around for over 40 yrs and while it was very successful for about 25 of those teams now know how to stop it and better teams generally do. look what LSU did last year. in this yrs bowl game tech scored 14 pts. the other thing every team had that won the NC with the option is an arse kicking defense. tech doesn't have the athletes to put on both offense and defense and johnson selects the offense every time. it's his trademark. now, if he can recruit great defensive players, he might make a splash but i still think he's doomed because the triple option can be stopped. since high schools don't really run it anymore, college players have to be taught how to stop it. so during the regular season tech has a better chance to prevail with only one week to prepare; but in bowl games? get used to losing them like he has the last 2 yrs.

Johnson and Wommack didn't get along. Johnson has a good gimmick offense, but as the ACC catches up with it, his wins will go down. It is not always a badge of honor to blow up your assistants.

The problem with Tech will be getting the players to play in the offense. The base of the offense is 1 back and 2 slot backs, which would be slot receivers in a passing offense. You can play two TE on the offense or split receivers out and have a 4 receiver set. Basically, nothing different than spread offenses except his QB goes under center. His QB's at Ga Southern, Navy, and two years at Tech were limited in passing skills. I wonder what he could be able to do with a QB that could pass effectively and expand his offense. It is hard to judge what he has the ability to do until that QB gets in the system.

Johnson's slotbacks are nothing like the slotbacks from the Run N Shoot. They are running backs that just happen to be in the flex position.

I don't think the expectations at GT are that high. He has taken them from a 6-6 or 7-5 Chan Gailey team to 10 wins. For GT that's pretty good and in the weak conference that they are in he should have a chance at a BCS bowl. He may not win any BCS trophies but consistently over 8 wins with BCS contentions makes him coach for life there.

Of course, I mean it's not like they've ever won more than 10 games in a year or a national title or anything
