Im huge, I mean HUGE on Herman but I agree. frick a low buyout. If thats really important to him then he is TELLING you hes isnt going to be here long term. If LSU stretches out for a guy like Jimbo or Herman then they need a long term commitment.
Herman may have his sights set on a destination job(Texas? USC?) when they get their shite together. I dont want LSU to be a stepping stone for the next HC. He may also be looking at moving up to the NFL but if hes smart and I know he is, he should never move up to the NFL. Novelty offenses/defenses like his dont make it in the NFL long term. NFL teams adjust. Look at Chip Kelly.
