Jags get Grant
Coen calling plays, great move for both.

Jags might be fun to watch next year. Offense should be strong.

Feels like a bit of a high risk low reward job for Udinski if he isn’t calling plays
I’m sure he’s getting a sweet pay raise but you’ve put yourself in a tough spot to elevate as a non playcalling OC and the Jags can block him from interviewing for any other OC jobs down the road even if they are offering him play calling.
Probably lot easier said than done to turn down the big pay raise but if you pull a Nic Caley, you can likely get an OC job that gives you more control of the reigns and more upward mobility

He might feel at 29 years of age that he needs to have a role like this for his own development. Better to be a non-play calling OC than an offensive positional coach IMO. I've taken jobs largely because it was a better spot for my professional development.
And yeah, the money for him was probably hard to ignore.
It's also the NFL. He'll now have coaching jobs for the rest of his life because he's been an NFL coordinator

I feel like it’s a bit of a wash. If the Jags are good, he’s not gonna get much shine for it.
Also likely the only way he gets the play sheet is if things go sideways first and if somehow he is still getting interest to be an OC elsewhere he isn’t really able to make that move

Yeah I get that, but the big difference is that professional development job in your case couldn’t actively stop you from taking the next job that may have more opportunity
This time next year let’s say a top offense loses their guy to a HC job and that team wants him to come and call plays, the Jags can completely block them unless it’s for a head coach job.
And not a whole lot of teams who are going to be itching to hire a non play calling OC as a HC

Yeah I mean he already had that locked up tho

But either way it’s his life, seems a bit short sighted of a decision but being a millionaire ain’t a bad thing to sign up. Maybe he got assurances from Coen that he would slowly build him up to take over play calling.

Honestly love the staff Coen has put together. Total youth movement for the most part. Glad to see Shad be willing to step outside of the retread/older name guy/boring comfort zone.
