Freaking out over "white whales"

We all want the best coach we can get, and it's generally accepted that LSU is the best job available this year. But I can't wrap my head around the idea that Jimbo and Riley are the only "top tier" coaches out there and if we hire anyone else we would be "settling." Personally, I've never been that enthusiastic about Jimbo, especially after he drove FSU into the ground. Riley might put up some good numbers against Big 12 defenses, but I don't think he's the second coming of Saban when it comes to building a consistently superior program.
And, quite honestly, each of them has a very good gig right now and there's really no burning reason for either of them to move. Yet some people on here are panicking over the possibility that we might "miss out" on one or the other of them and moaning that we must not be a top program if neither of them jumps at the chance to come to LSU.
Speaking of Saban, I seem to recall that when we hired him in 2000, he wasn't considered a "top tier" candidate. There are several intriguing "second tier" coaches out there that I think have the potential to be better then either Jimbo or Riley if they can get their hands on a major program. Let's hope Woodward makes the right choice. But I hope he's not as obsessed with "white whales" as some of the folks on this board.
