There is different types of reading, the same as there is different types of screen watching. Some types of screen watching is better than some types of reading.

Watching something of substance that’s educational on a screen is better than reading smut.

The girl in the OP would be better served watching an educational screen than reading porn. How this is an argument amazes me

What are we even considering smut? For instance there’s some sex scenes in ACOTAR but no more than I read in ASOIAF. Throne of Glass so far (three books in) has had one pretty vanilla scene.

And again, we’re assuming that’s all she read. There’s not 120 books pictured there. For instance I read ACOTAR this year but I also read A River Runs Through It, an IFS book, etc.

The larger point is as long as she’s reading and not spending all of her time online who cares?

The idea that those of us who are learned and cool are only reading nonfiction and watching documentaries so that we can learn more is fricking stupid. It is a lie. We all read "garbage" for fun. Romance isnt all porn, just like sci-fi isn't all escapist nonsense.

How about this? Reading garbage romance is far better than using your screen time to shite on someone for the perceived/assumed quality of what they are reading. The former is reading, an objectively "good" pastime. The latter is being a twat for no reason, and it cannot in any way improve the quality of your life
