1. She tried her best to conform with society's expectations of her and tried, in her own way, to prepare her daughter to do better in that same world.

2. Her eyes were open to how the real world works. I give a lot of credit to folks who don't go around fooled by the public image they create for themselves.

Other than that, there is little to find redeemable. I suppose she was "crazy" (pun intended) good in the sack, at least with Gatsby.
