Just finished it. Just shy of 300 pages,, knocked it out in two days. Easy read. It's offered as a work of 'fiction' for legal reasons but for those who follow college football carefully can identify the actors in question. It is something I would recommend all college football fans read prior to kickoff this fall. Although it isn't set in the SEC, the goings on could easily happen in e SEC, ACC or any other conference. Headline readers will have their view of the world - not to mention truth and justice - adjusted.

Just read the description because I was interested. May try and read it... But I could definitely see putting it down less than halfway through.

I really still think Baylor should get the death penalty so I doubt I'd like any thing that tries to paint Briles in a positive light. Maybe some other readers can chime in.

What's interesting is the level of meddling by ESPN secondary to their investment in the Longhorn Network and the pressure by UT boosters on the conference commissioner. In the end, you walk away with the feeling that this was only peripherally about Briles - or even Baylor. There were much bigger high dollar issues at play along with some serious political axes to be ground.

The SEC is less susceptible because Alabama doesn't have the equivalent of a LHN, but you wonder what forces would come into play if a Vandy, or even an LSU tried to upaet the apple cart in a serious way.

Took a look at The Scapegoat. I have to go against your recommendation that all fans take a look at it.

Just my opinion but, wow... what a bunch of complete horse shite.

A fictionalized true story... just means the author could pick and choose his "facts". He'd have been better off writing a non-fiction report and telling us what happened. But that's the thing. He clearly sees this as some massive conspiracy to rid the college football world of a slightly above average coach. He is suggesting that Texas and ESPN had nothing better to do than take down Baylor. Then he tries to portray briles as just a good Christian man who had no idea he was coaching a bunch of thugs.

There are thousands of dudes with bad takes about the Baylor situation, but this one had to try to turn it into a novel. A really bad novel at that.

Art Briles is a victim of his own arrogance. And so were the woman he let get raped by his players.

This book is trash. My opinion.
