Looking for another fantasy series to get into

It gets some love on here but I really didn’t like it.
The protagonist is such a colossal a-hole, it’s hard to root for him.
That said, the world it takes place in is pretty cool with a nice twist on the fantasy genre.
I almost read the next book just for that, but didn’t.

He’s not nearly so much of a jerk as the series goes along Memphis. He grows up a bit along with the series in books 2 and 3.
Or if you really liked the world then you could read his liars key series, which is set in the same world and has more likable protagonists.
To the OP, it’s and excellent series with a great world. But it’s a Joe Abercrombie type series where the main characters aren’t nice/good people hero types. And particularly not on the first book, where jorg is an angry a-hole.
Mile Cameron’s red knight series is kinda similar in style but with a true good guy protagonist.

I read it earlier this year and thought it was solid.
A couple of series I read around the same time that I enjoyed more:
The Demon Cycle - Peter V. Brett (First Book is The Warded Man)
The Chronicles of the Unhewn Throne - Brian Stavely (First Book is The Emperor's Blades)

I agree with all of this. It's dark, and Jorg's an a-hole. But that dynamic improves each book. And it's a great world he built.
ETA: Just saw Tim Gerard Reynolds narrates the Red Queens War series set in the same world. That's good enough reason for me to start that series

Yeah I keep seeing people say this. And I’m a huge fan or Abercrombie, so this should be right up my alley but for some reason I just didn’t like Prince of Thorns.
A lot of it was that I really didn’t like Jorg. And I’ve never been a big fan of the first person perspective it was written in.
Maybe I’ll give the second book a shot later this year.
