My youngest brother (12) is really finding a fascination with history, so I figured I would get him a couple books as part of his bday gift. I was trying to remember the title of one WW2 book in particular, and not having any luck finding it. I think it won some awards, so not like it's an obscure book.
1) I read it in school when I was in 6th grade and it was a recently published book then, so probably published between 2002-2007.
2) It was historical fiction
3) This is the basic plot: The story was told from 2 viewpoints: a 16 year old American soldier and a 16 year old Hitler Youth soldier. Both believe they are on the side of the right and have these grand thoughts of what war is. As they get involved in the battles first hand, their thoughts about war change. And I think one, or both, of them end up being KIA at the end
Anyone remember this book?

BN
Barnes and Noble has a decent search function. I searched for WW2 historical fiction. Take a look.

I don't remember that but a couple you could give him
(1) Rifles for Watie by Harold Keith - civil war era
(2) The Battle of Britain - WW2 era and one of my absolute favorite books that got me into reading. About fighter pilots over Britain when they were getting bombed every night.
Both are excellent, I always forget the author who wrote Battle for Britain but I recommended it here before. I'll look it up.
ETA: Damn there are a ton of books titled "Battle of Britain". The one I am talking about is by Quentin Reynolds. I'm not sure if it is really available as it was originally published in 1958, but it is absolutely fantastic. If you can find it used or something without spending a ton, i am sure your brother would love it.

Here is a copy on a site for $11.00 used but listed as VERY GOOD condition.

Thanks LSU. That’s a pretty handy tool. I ended up finding it. It’s called Soldier Boys.
Right on Sally. Thanks for the rec. His birthday isn’t until late Oct so I might have to read it before I wrap it once it arrives
