Help with the name of a YA book title.

While drinking the other night we were talking about random books we read when we were younger. I could not think of the name of the book and when I described it and no one was familiar with it. Can anyone help me out.
It was either and 80s or early 90s YA book
It was basically about this kid who trained dragons to fight. I think it was on some other planet and the kid was a servant or slave maybe. If I remember correctly all the dragons had a kk in their name.
Does this ring any bells?
