I’ll add something I got from reading Alan Jacobs:

In addition to this, AND setting a dedicated time, AND finding a riveting book:
Put the book down if you don't like it. I have a three chapter rule (unless the chapters are super short, then it's 10). If, after three chapters, I don't see the book and WANT to keep reading, I just move on. You don't have to power through a book because you thought it would be interesting, the library has more.
