All the pretty horses question

Just finished this, awesome book.
Spoilers:
I did not exactly follow the parts where John took the captain to get Blevins horse and he got shot, etc. at the barn.
I get the gist of what went down but didn’t picture/understand everything. There was a lot of grabbing ropes, horses, tying stuff taking place. For example, him laying on Blevins horse, how he tied the captain to one of the horses which dislocated one of his shoulders, how he was able to escape without getting shot - all of this I’m not really clear on.
I also didn’t get the part later when he rigged the captain’s pistol to go off - was this to throw off those chasing him?

Yes that setting off the pistol was a distraction.
The part where he got the captain with the horses was a pretty fast scene. McCarthy writes fast like that sometimes. I'm not a cowboy, so in some of the scenes where they're tying horses up - I was following slowly and learning at the same time. (I don't have the book in front of me to refresh.)
If you're going to read the whole Border trilogy, the Crossing is a bit of a slug-through-it book if you don't know Spanish. It's a great odyssey of a book, but lots and lots of Spanish.

Thank you.
Yes I started with No Country then All the Pretty Horses and would like to finish the Border trilogy now.
I appreciate the heads up about the Spanish. I had searched some of the phrases when I could not infer what was said and found last night a translation for all the Spanish for this book, hopefully I can find something similar for the crossing.
I went into All the Pretty Horses blind and man, the prison events and the end was incredibly intense. I’m glad John nor Rawlins died, I was afraid one of them may have.

Yep his books are intense with great prose to go along with that. The Road is my favorite of his. A great book but not for the faint of heart.

I want to read it but saw that it’s about a father and son which makes me wonder if I’m up for it.

The Road was great. I'll admit it's the only book I can recall that had me crying at the end.
