Mitchell named SEC Player of the Week; LSU still unranked in latest polls

Tasmin Mitchell was named SEC Player of the Week, the league announced yesterday. Mitchell averaged 21.5 points, 10.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.5 steals in LSU's two wins over Georgia and Alabama.
LSU beat Alabama on Sunday, 76-62, to improve its record to 19-4 (7-1 in the SEC). The Tigers return to action on Wednesday to face Mississippi State (16-7, 6-2) in Starkville. Tip-off in Humphrey Coliseum is at 7pm CT.

Despite its strong record, LSU was still not ranked in the latest polls released yesterday. The Tigers had enough votes to be ranked No. 26. LSU improved its RPI from 55 to 52.

In Professional Golf news, LSU Alumnus David Toms is fighting hard to qualify for the 2009 Masters tournament. Toms will need to be in the top 50 in the Golf Rankings to qualify for the tournament. He is currently No. 66. He is playing in the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am tournament next weekend.
Finally, in LSU Football news, former LSU assistant coach Josh Henson has joined the University of Missouri football coaching staff as its newest assistant coach, and will serve as co-offensive line coach, as announced today by MU Head Coach Gary Pinkel. Henson spent the last four years as tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator at LSU.
