Dabo Swinney Says Lane Kiffin Had 'Zero' To Do With Ole Miss Tampering Case

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney strongly denied a report Wednesday that LSU coach Lane Kiffin helped him build a tampering case against Ole Miss earlier this year.

CBS Sports' John Talty reported that Kiffin passed along information to Swinney and encouraged him to publicly call out Ole Miss over its recruitment of linebacker Luke Ferrelli.

Ferrelli transferred from Cal to Clemson in January and had already enrolled in classes before re-entering the transfer portal and eventually signing with Ole Miss.

Swinney accused Ole Miss head coach Pete Golding of "blatant tampering" at the time and reported the situation to the NCAA.

After Clemson's practice Wednesday, Swinney was asked about Talty's report and emphatically denied that Kiffin played a role in his decision.

"Lane Kiffin had nothing to do with, I mean, zero to do with me turning in the tampering situation here at Clemson," Swinney said. "Zero."

Swinney acknowledged that Kiffin reached out to him, along with several other coaches, but said he wasn't operating on hearsay.

"If you tamper with my program, I'm going to turn you in," Swinney said. "And it's just that simple. Lane Kiffin had nothing to do with that, zero."
