Michigan AD Jim Hackett wants LSU's Les Miles to be the next Michigan coach.
Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports
Two college football websites reported Tuesday night that the University of Michigan has reached out to the agent of LSU head coach Les Miles.

Today, College Football Editor Dave Miller says "Michigan interim athletic director Jim Hackett wants Les Miles," via this Campus Insider video:
quote:

"Hacket wants Miles," Miler said. "The problem is there are some in the Michigan administration that are worried that they will do a dance with Miles and he will untimately back out at the last minute, kind of making the Wolverines looks bad."
Angelique Chengelis with The Detroit News says that Miles' agent, George Bass, has not returned a request for comment.

The Advocate in Baton Rouge is reporting that LSU AD Joe Alleva said that he has not been contacted by anyone regarding Miles.

"But he can be replaced. And he needs to be, imo."

Im so glad you opinion doesnt matter. It is astonishing how high LSU fans think their school is on the totem pole. you have to admit is isnt that high in the grand scheme of things. If programs like Texas, USC, Florida, Michigan, ND cant find a coach to win consistently how the hell do you think LSU will?

For the sake of the LSU football Program I hope he doesnt leave......For the sake of my season ticket location, i hope he leaves and we have 2-5 losing seasons so the fairweather fans, like most of the people here, will stop renewing their tickets and i can get better seats.

Who fricking cares? Of course they ill contact Miles or else the AD wouldn't be doing his job.

Miles will stay but loves Michigan, he won't string them along because of that.

Miles has done a good job at LSU and has done nothing to warrant being replaced. He hasn't won an SEC Title in 3 years so I guess he's washed up?
LSU had an 8-4 year in what any knowledgeable LSU fan would have expected to be a rebuilding year. The over-reaction on these internet boards is ridiculous.

The rhetoric about keeping him basically says, "How are you sure the next guy will be any better?"

Like there's a sure thing out there that isn't already coaching somewhere else. Les Miles wasn't a shining paragon of coaching brilliance before he came here...and sure isn't one now. He isn't some masterful schemer. He's outside the box, mostly, charismatic and an excellent recruiter without question. But he can be replaced. And he needs to be, imo.

Who knows who we would get if he were to go. But, this talk of us becoming the next Tennessee is ridiculous. There is to much talent in Louisiana to become Tennessee.

Why don't we let Miles roll the dice? $500k per SEC win, win the NC and he gets and extra $10 mil. Just like on TV, I don't get paid, until you get paid. If he's the guy, put the $$ where the mouth is.

Just maybe he is using this as a negotiation chip to increase his salary/bonus next time it is negotiated. He would be crazy to leave now with the returning players he will have next year and the recruits he has coming in. We should have a legitimate shot at the NC! Our QBs will be a year older and both will be better under Cam's coaching. The defense should be better and there are several good OL recruits coming in and returning. "Speak those things as if they were"...like optimism!, should be the tone of the day. If we lose Les Miles we may never get back to this plateau with the great coaches he has in place under him. We are recruiting nationally now along with our great in state recruits. I have never seen that at LSU and I have been a fan since 1953!

I see most people are voicing their opinion of wanting him gone, but please answer this: who would you replace him with that could do any better?
I fear that by firing a great coach, we'll become the next Tennessee. Or we could scare away potential good coaches because they fear they won't live up to these grand expectations we have.

But I can understand his underlying passion for Michigan. He went there, played for them, and graduated there. Right now I'm a student at LSU and no matter where I attend grad school, my love will always be here. That's not to say that I won't push myself to bring all my success and abilities to where I go though. I believe Les is the same way. I also think that Les is avoiding "squashing the bug" because that would require him to bad mouth Michigan. Correct me if I'm wrong there though.

(LSU has always been a power team and that will not soon go away, with or without Miles. If this is a dream of his, then he should go now. Chances are there won't be a next time for him. We WILL continue to win and play for championships because that's who we are.)

If by "always" you mean since around 2000 then sure. Other than that you're an idiot

"It is easy to say that Les is the best coach of all time at LSU because prior to Saban we haven't had good back to back seasons"

No good back to back seasons? What's your criteria of a "good" season. Here's seasons LSU has finished ranked in the top 20 in back to back seasons.

(1958- #1
1959- #3)

(1961- #4
1962- #7)

(1964- #7
1965- #8)

(1968- #19
1969- #10)

(1970- #7
1971- #11
1972- #11
1973- #13)

(1985- #20
1986- #10
1987- #5
1988- #19)

(1996- #12
1997- #13)

I like him as a coach too but he's got the Michigan bug and he refuses to squash it. Exits are never fun but they happen. I don't give two flips if you want to be salty! My fandom is to LSU, not a "Michigan man"!
