Lane Kiffin’s name has once again surfaced in the coaching carousel, this time as a potential candidate for both the LSU and Florida head coaching vacancies.

With both programs searching for a new leader, Kiffin’s track record and familiarity with the SEC make him an obvious option in Baton Rouge and Gainesville.

The question is: would Kiffin leave what he has built at Ole Miss for either job?

This week, Nick Saban debated whether or not Kiffin would make the the move. Per On3:
quote:

“Jobs that weren’t great jobs before are now,” Saban said. “Lane is the first name up for Florida and the first name up for LSU, but I think you can have a long debate on whether either one of those jobs is actually better than the job he has now because he has some guys over there at Ole Miss that give him pretty much whatever he wants from a roster standpoint. He may not necessarily have the same thing at Florida or LSU. So you look at these jobs differently now.

“Yeah, maybe you’ve got facilities. Maybe you’ve got money. Maybe you’ve got alumni who are passionate about football, but are they willing to invest what you have to invest now to win? Because a lot of people don’t believe in this shite.”
Saban also talked about where LSU ranks, as far as jobs go:
quote:

“That’s changed dramatically, the whole question of what constitutes the best job,” Saban told On3. “What used to make a job great was facilities, fan support, good academic support, recruiting base and being able to create value for the players. Now that has been minimized to how much money do you have to spend on building a roster.

“That is the most important thing by far.”

Long term everyone’s desire to waste money on teens will wane. But that time isn’t now. Every program will be burnt eventually.

It's like when the internet was new. Everything and everyone was trying to figure out the economics of it all. It took, prolly, a good 10 years before enough of a track record was viewable before we could figure out "What the hell's going on out here!?" (Vince Lombardi)

Saban is correct and he is subtly saying that LSU has lost the money war and Florida has directed its attention in other areas than Football.

He's being more subtle to say LSU isn't a top 5 job anymore due to NIL/money. Not poor but went from tier 1 to tier 2 school. Doesn't have money to regularly compete in the top 10 richest schools. Every few years? Sure. Which isn't all that different in our recent history the problem is NCAA landscape has dramatically changed. 1 great season 9 mediocre to bad seasons the past the decade.

This one missed the mark too. He said nothing of the sort. The point he was making is that NIL created a little bit more of an equal playing field.
