Newly hired LSU defensive coordinator Kevin Steele has a two-year contract worth $1 million per year. His contract will be under consideration by the LSU Board of Supervisors.

Here are the details, according to Jim Kleinpeter with NOLA.com:

Steele, the former Alabama assistant hired earlier this month, will make $500,000 in base salary with a $500,000 media stipend. Former LSU defensive coordinator John Chavis, who left LSU for Texas A&M, made $1.312 million in his final season with the Tigers.

The contract includes a "Les Miles" clause, which states that if head coach Les Miles leaves, the contract ends six months later. Steele's buyout is set at $450,000. If Steele leaves for another SEC school he would owe 50 percent of the remaining value of the contract and 20 percent if he leaves for a non-conference school.
According to Kleinpeter, Steele can earn a maximum of $125,000 in incentive bonuses annually.
