LSU senior defensive end Neil Farrell Jr. announced Monday that he was opting back into the 2020 season after originally opting out on August 8 due to coronavirus health concerns with his family.

On Tuesday morning, LSU coach Ed Orgeron joined ESPN's 104.5 "Off The Bench" to talk about Farrell Jr.'s return and what it means for the team.
quote:

"Obviously, Neil is part of our family, a great young man," Orgeron said. "He made a family decision to go home that we honored. He thought that everything was taken care of to come back and we welcomed him back."

"Obviously he needs to do some work the get in better shape but I think he can add some depth to our interior defensive line which we need."
On the defensive line depth...
quote:

"First of all, Glen Logan has been stellar," Orgeron said. "He's a senior for us, been here for a while, and knows what to do. Apu Ika has made tremendous improvements. He's in good shape. Apu is down to about 340-pound right now."

"Joe (Evans) is coming along. Joe's electric coming out of his hips, making some plays. Jaquelin Roy is making some progress there, I think he's going to be an outstanding defensive lineman for us."

"Add in Neil Farrell there with Jacobian Guillory, Eric Taylor, and Soni Fonua... we have a lot of players but we are going to need every one of them."

Whether or not it's Larry Leo, I like to blame him. He makes enough mistakes that he has earned the reputation.

After reading that “depth” I’m even more grateful of Farrell’s return and looking forward to 2020 deep haul of DL recruits.
