During the SEC Coaches Teleconference on Wednesday, head coach Ed Orgeron said that Joe Burrow's consistency throughout fall camp is the reason why he was named LSU's starter.
quote:

"It was very close but overall but he was the most consistent quarterback throughout the whole camp," Orgeron said.
Orgeron also explained that since LSU was installing a new offense, Burrow was not behind when he arrived this summer.
quote:

“Joe is very smart,” Orgeron said. “We knew that when we recruited him. He’s a tireless worker. It was an advantage for him that we were putting in a new offense, so he wasn't that far behind anybody else. He was there for the first day of installation for a lot of this offense."
He also added that backup QB Myles Brennan needs to be ready to play in case anything happens.
quote:

"Myles is one play away," Orgeron said. "We expect him to be ready to play if called upon. Both quarterbacks are prepared."

Joe loves getting the ball to his playmakers - JT always was looking to tuck and run the ball himself. Coach Orgeron went out and got you a winner at QB!

expectations need to be tempered. He is still a first-year starter and in a new system. He is very talented and will be very good, but don't expect stardom out of the gate.
