LSU coach Brian Kelly spoke with reporters on Friday afternoon and was asked about Garrett Nussmeier's decision to return to the team in 2025 for his final year of eligibility.

Kelly explained that he always thought he would return, but they didn't take anything for granted.
quote:

"Knowing Garrett, there was always a sense that he waited for his opportunity, that he had been such a proponent of LSU, and that he wanted to be here," Kelly said.

"There was always this sense that he was going to come back, but we never took it for granted."

"We did our due diligence. We made our case as to why it was in everybody's best interest for him to come back for another year. And we re-recruited him from that standpoint."

"We were able to present him with a great opportunity from NIL, revenue sharing, and everything that goes along with that. And everything that goes along with being arguably the best quarterback in the SEC and maybe in the country. Then, we were able to close this and get him to publicly say he was coming back."

"There was a lot of confidence, but you never take that for granted. You have to re-recruit. That's what we did, and we are excited that he's back."

He’s going to be a damn good qb if a few portal guys recognize how he can make them millionaires

I'd like to hear more about the revenue sharing.

Nuss will make more money coming back to LSU for another year and preparing for the NFL than had he left. It’s that simple.

If Nuss follows the same path as Burrow and Daniels, he's poised to have an amazing season. Hopefully LSU can give him a capable defense.

A pocket Qb who usually doesn't run with 4 new lineman and a center who gets blown up on most plays. That won't be a winning combo in 2025.

Now teach him to stop being scared and take a hit in the pocket yet. Also, teach him to scramble when the opportunity presents itself, stop throwing off his back foot, and stop acting injured after a pick. Do that, and he may be good next year. If not, he’ll be the same vanilla QB he was this year. Yes, I know his stats, but he is soft as butter right now
