Texas A&M Pulls Ahead Late Past LSU In Triple OT Battle To Win, 94-91

BATON ROUGE, LA. – The LSU men’s basketball team fell to Texas A&M, 94-91, in triple overtime on Saturday evening inside the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
With the loss, LSU drops to 15-16, while Texas A&M improves to 21-10 on the season.
Texas A&M opened the contest and took the early lead, but LSU responded with a 19-3 run to take control. The Tigers dominated in the paint, piling up 18 points to outmatch the Aggies 12 points. LSU went into the locker room with a 38-33 lead over Texas A&M. LSU shot 14-of-28 (50%) from the floor, while Texas A&M finished 10-of-35 (28.6%). Both teams drained four treys. LSU played unselfishly, tallying 11 assists. The Tigers also outrebounded the Aggies 22-20.
In the second half, the Tigers maintained their lead throughout the half until the Aggies made a layup to go up 61-60 with 7:25 remaining. It was a tight contest when Max Mackinnon tied the game (70-70) for LSU, sending the game into overtime. The Aggies went on to outscore LSU, 37-32. LSU made 11-of-25 (44%) field goals and three treys. Texas A&M recorded 14-of-32 shots for 43.8 percent and four treys.
The teams traded baskets in the first overtime ending in another draw (79-79) to send the contest into a second overtime. In the second OT, Max Mackinnon paced the Tigers with six points to go into triple overtime (85-85). The Aggies took control in the third overtime as Rashaun Agee’s layup put the team ahead to clutch the win.
Max Mackinnon paced the Tigers with 20 points on 7-of-20 from the field to go with two treys and three assists. Michael Nwoko earned a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds. In addition to Mackinnon and Nwoko, three other Tigers scored double digits, including Jalen Reece (17), Marquel Sutton (12) and Rob Miller (12).
Rashaun Agee was the leading scorer for the Aggies, finishing with 26 points on 8-of-21 shooting and two treys.
The Tigers will return to the court Wednesday, March 11, traveling to Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee for the first round of the SEC Tournament. Game time and opponent will be announced later.
