LSU Snaps 5-Game Losing Streak With Double Overtime Win vs. Ole Miss, 106-99

OXFORD, MS. – The LSU men’s basketball team defeated Ole Miss, 106-99, in double overtime on Wednesday night inside The Sandy and John Black Pavilion.
With the win, LSU improves to 15-13, while Ole Miss drops to 11-17 on the season.
The first half was a tight battle between the Tigers and Rebels, featuring 10 times tied and eight lead changes. The Rebels led by as much as seven, while the Tigers led by as much as three. Ole Miss held the 42-41 advantage over LSU heading into the break. LSU shot 14-of-29 (48.3%) from the floor, while Ole Miss went 16-of-29 (55.2%). The Tigers drained six three-pointers while the Rebels were 1-of-5.
Rebels’ Eduardo Klafke opened the second half with a jumper. Tigers’ Pablo Tamba answered with a jumper, sparking a back and forth stretch as both teams began to trade baskets. Ole Miss held the lead by four (80-76) with 2:26 remaining. LSU’s Michael Nwoko made two free throws and a jumper tied the game (80-80) with 1:38 left. Rebel Corey Chest dunked the ball to put Ole Miss back ahead, but Tiger Rashad King followed with two made free throws to tie the game (82-82) and force overtime. LSU outscored Ole Miss, 41-40.
The teams went basket for basket in the first overtime ending in another draw to go into a second overtime. The Tigers take control in the second overtime to clutch the win. Max Mackinnon went on a six-point streak to extend the Tigers lead by seven points (103-96) with :34 remaining.
Mackinnon led the Tigers in scoring with 33 points on 11-of-24 from the field to go with four three-pointers. Nwoko had 18 points on four shots and a perfect 10-of-10 from the free throw line. Other Tigers that scored in double figures were Pablo Tamba (16), Rashad King (13), Robert Miller (12) and Jalen Reece (11). Reece and King both drained three treys.
Ilias Kamardine was the leading scorer for the Rebels, finishing with 26 points on 9-of-18 shooting and five rebounds.
The Tigers are back on the court Saturday, Feb. 28, returning home to face Oklahoma. The game will tip off at 5:00 p.m. CT at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
