Do You Have To Leave Louisiana To See How F'ed It Is?

I know alot of native New Orleanians who still try to lean on charm and culture as big draws of the once unique city. Why? When you go other places, do you find yourself thinking "I could live here."

Yes. I wouldn't be here if not for family.

Nope, most are too ignorant and try find everything wrong with other places to justify why they’re staying in Louisiana.

If you can live in Louisiana, you can live anywhere.

I thought the same when i was in colorado but when i saw people boiling crawfish and catching redfish on social media i was like "damn...i would miss this"
Yes the scenery is beautiful and prettier, not as corrupt, cleaner elsewhere than louisiana by far but the activities i do here (hunting, fishing, LSU tailgating, boating) i would miss greatly

All the time. My problem is family. I have way too many people that live within a 30 minute radius. Now, my girls have grown up here and are about graduate high school. If either of them decide to live out of state we will likely follow at some point.

It becomes more apparent when you travel to other states.

Exact same situation so hopefully I graduate in the next 2 years and we're "forced" to move.

I think for most it's not easy leaving family.
You might have older relatives you have to eventually be involved with to care for.
Once your kids are entrenched in schools, it's hard to leave that.
It's much easier when you are young and have more portable options with work. Once you get married you have to think about your spouse as well.
Once you are in a job long term, it's harder to leave that job due to potential retirement issues.

You have to leave ‘the south’ really for the full experience. Leaving La and moving to MS, AL, or AR is humorous to me.

Once they graduate HS, just move. Why wait for them to make the move? Just go and enjoy life somewhere else.

get some of those other people to explain how a lot is two words

Honestly the more places I travel the more I realize everywhere is fricked.

If it weren't for family I wouldn't be here.
I about have my wife convinced to move someplace with a real winter.

I think that could go with any place. Once you live in an area you become use to it and see something different in any other place.
I work with a lot of people from the mid-west. They live in N.O. because they're tired of the winters there.
Me personally, I'd love to live in Blue Ridge up in N Georgia.

Moved recently after living in south LA my entire life. While infrastructure and public participation/pride in the community is way better, I’d be lying if I said that everything doesn’t feel a bit sterile.

I have been here my whole life. My buddy and his family were from here, and he picked up and moved to Hoover, AL. He said it wasn't easy but their quality of life is sooo much better there. He told me "someone had to break the cycle. Might as well be me. now my kids will be from here and will hopefully marry from here and we'll be the family here." Made a lot of sense to me.
