I’ve been going to concerts there for 40 years and it never gets old. I saw a show there last week, first time in 5-6 years and it’s just a fun place to see a show. Great sound, easy to get a drink, super fun crowd, easy to get in and out of. It made me a little nostalgic for old New Orleans.

The best show I ever saw at Tipatinas was Crowded House back in the early 90s. They were just in rare form and the interaction with the crowd was amazing. Jane’s Addiction was loud AF . And of course every New Orleans band. Dr John, Radiators, Dirty Dozen etc.

What’s the best gig you saw at Tips?

Ive seen so many shows there over the years... one of my favorites was either late 80s or early 90s... Michelle Shocked..

Will always remember those packed, summer shows before they put in air conditioning!

Saw Pearl Jam in early 1992, right after they were on Saturday Night Live. Eddie Vedder walked across the rafters.

Saw Dinosaur Jr. in 1994. My God they were loud. My ears rang for days. Some young girl climbed on top of the amps, laid on her stomach, swung her legs and watched them, liked they were on American Bandstand.

Did you go see Kurt Vile? If so, wife and I were at that show and it was our first time back in probably 10+ years. Kurt was really good btw. My favorite shows will be always be the galactic shows in the late 90s. Apparently they own it now.

Saw her open for Billy Bragg. Her dad played a few songs with her that night and I'm friends with him now. He lives right behind me. He's 83 and still has a band he gigs with.

You don’t need a second person to buy a ticket or enter the building

See, that's one of those things you realize when you get older, but when you're young, it seems daunting to go to shows on your own. God, there were so many great shows I missed when I was in college because none of my close friends were interested in going. I still regret not seeing Sonic Youth/Neil Young & Crazy Horse, Pearl Jam/Smashing Pumpkins/Red Hot Chili Peppers and Lollapalooza 1992. You get older, you realize you can go have a few drinks and see a band by yourself.

Saw Lenny Kravitz there shortly after his debut album came out, great show.
Hoodoo Gurus were great there in the early 90s.

Nevilles the night before Mardi gras years ago, walked out of there shortly before parades were going to start.

Saw Candlebox on the Lucy tour there. Best show ever. Saw a James Hall show 97ish when Marilyn Manson walked in and his cover Sweet Dreams was playing. His gf said, hey your song is playing. Haha

Squeeze was a good show.

The Continental Drifters and the Subdudes were always good.

The Who and Talking Heads stand out for big name acts. Allmans, Dr. John, Meters and Nevilles too many tines to count and always great.

The one that sticks out to me is Lords of the New Church, back around 1987.
