Ski Trip Recommends

Wife and I would like to plan a ski trip during Mardi Gras break. Neither of us have ever skied. Recommendations?

Steamboat if you are looking for the whole ski town vibe and a mountain that is good for newer skiers. Lots of mellow terrian.

For never-evers I’d recommend either Breckenridge or Park City. Both have a wide variety of terrain, good ski schools (take lessons; don’t let anyone tell you differently), plenty of stuff to do in the town, and easy to get to from a major airport (Park City has the edge there.). I’ve never been to Steamboat; I’d think it checks all the boxes except it’s a little tougher to get to. There are better ski mountains but first-timers will need a break and the towns at Breck and PC make the difference.

Stay in Frisco/Silverthorne/Dillon. It's about the easiest to get to from Denver of the major ski areas. 20 minutes from five resorts it feels like. From Loveland, A-Basin (though I wouldn't go there as two total novices), Keystone, Breckenridge, and Copper.
Steamboat is cool, but it's a bigger pain in the arse to get to.
Park City's proximity to SLC makes that another very attractive option imo.

Not if you fly into Hayden

Granted I’ve only been skiing 3 times, but I’d have been happy to go to steamboat as a first timer. Fly into Haden and it’s a 30 minute shuttle or rental car drive. The town itself is cool with plenty of shops for the womenfolk and good restaurants. Free bus/shuttle to the mountain if staying in town. Good instructors (any large resort will have a good ski school and definitely get at least a day of lessons). Good terrain for beginners (a beginner could spend most of their trip riding the sunshine express lift). I personally can’t speak to this, but I’ve been told that it’s less crowded than the I-70 resorts. Steamboat also has other things to do if you decide skiing isn’t for you (dog sledding with Grizzle-T, strawberry hot springs, fishing, shopping, snowmobiling, sleigh rides, etc…).
Since neither of you have ever been skiing, be prepared for sticker shock.

What you will want to look for is resorts with plenty of beginner terrain that has nice wide runs to practice your turns. Never been to Park City but I’m sure it checks those boxes. If it were me choosing I’d go with Breck or Copper Mountain, as both have a lot of green runs.
I learned at Copper so I’m partial to that mountain, but it will be a lot less crowded than Breck and it offers as much (probably more) beginner terrain. Peak 9 at Breck is always packed with people which means longer lift lines and more people on the slopes. I’d choose Copper Mountain.

Go northeast if you've never skied. You will be on green most of the time and maybe some easy blue toward the end of your trip.

We planned Big Sky this year. Wife has never been. They have a bunch of green runs and lots of ski school.

I tend to like less traveled resorts. Telluride, Big Sky, Snowbasin (UT), Powder Mountain (UT) in no particular order.
The other Colorado Places are fine as well.

Well sure, fly into a small airport near the resort would be better but thats not typically what people do.

When is your trip? I'm headed there March 13-19 and am interested to hear how it is. I've been during the summer and had a great time mountain-biking and am looking forward to the skiing.

The mountains will be icy and it’s harder to ski on ice. Also not as much fun.

Not good advice if you ask me.

Going to spend the same if not more for an inferior experience. Go west..Steamboat, Breck, Park City, Big Sky all great places for a new skier to explore and learn.

I recommend Keystone.
The mountain is good for both beginners and advanced.
The town and ski resort area is more fun than most that I've been to..
Not sure why Keystone isn't recommended as much here.

I see a bunch of recommendations for Steamboat.
Its $245 a day for a lift ticket there. No thanks. Try to stick to around $180 or you're being absolutely jobbed. I stick to under $100 lol.

I think Keystone is great for beginners. It really suffers from IMO being surrounded by a wealth of riches. There’s not really a reason to go there over Vail, Copper, Loveland, A Basin, Breck, or WP
It has great trees, but so does WP, and WP has other terrain that’s better than anything at Keystone. It does have night skiing, but not sure if that’s enough to sway people to go there over somewhere else 30 minutes away. And the town is less developed than Vail or Breck.
Put Keystone in any other state other than Utah and it’s one of the most popular in the US
