first time going and could use some help on where to stay and what to eat. We will be downtown for some concerts in april and was looking at either the Van Zandt or W, or any other suggestion. Also a nice restaurant for dinner one night and a few casual lunch spot recs would be much appreciated

We had BBQ for lunch at Terry Black's and it was outstanding. I'm not an Austin expert so I'm sure I'll have people tell me that "X" is better, and I can't argue because I haven't compared, but Terry Black's was damn delicious.

The Top Golf facility there is legit.

Where are the concerts, Moody Thestre? If so stay at the W since they're share the same building.

Places to eat:

Mexican - Polvol's or Curra's
BBQ - LaBarbeque
Late night - 24 Diner or Kerby Lane
Casual- Congress St. Cafe, good brunch too

How nice is nice?

Eddie V's on 5th.
Steak and seafood type place.

There's also this place called Palazzio that has good steak and shrimp combo. No reservations, but it can get crowded on the weekends.

You should try searching google "tigerdroppings + austin" this thread gets done once a fortnight or so.

Make the short trip to Lockhart for some BBQ. Kreuz was my favorite of the famous restaurants there

Get some BBQ for sure. Even if you don't want to wait 2+ hours for La BBQ or Franklins, they have some other damn good spots.

Jasper's downtown is great imo

Uchi for sushi if you don't mind dropping some $$$

Great hole in the wall hangover taco joints

Hit up some food trucks if you can. It's the Mecca of food trucks. They had one that was on DDD and it's fantastic called Luke's inside out.

Valentina's Tex Mex BBQ is a really good under the radar place. Food truck in a parking lot at a strip mall. It's where Aaron Franklin says he goes to eat Brisket. They do a full back beef rib there that is one of the best things I've ever eaten.

I had a really good meal at Lamberts BBQ on second near the Willie statue. Cool toy store on the same block.

They actually just moved to a brick-and-mortar on way south Manchaca. Not particularly accessible from downtown. Worth the drive, though. They have the best BBQ in town.
