Fire Stick Review

So got the FireTV stick on on Friday and played with it over the weekend.
Really like the interface especially the speed of the interface. Very fast switching between levels of the screen. If you use the Amazon App on Roku or SmartTVs its definitely worth getting as its fully integrated. The Music area is nice as well and has a karaoke feature to it. Only issue I ran into is casting the music off my android phone through Allcast. Google Play music wouldn't appear. The stick plus Amazon Cloud free pic storage has made we want to stick with paying for Amazon Prime.
Forgot to mention I did have what appeared to be a buffer issue last night. It sits just a foot away from wifi router. Would rather a hardwired option of the more expensive device but for 20 bucks this as good as my roku and combines some features of the Chromecast.

I also picked one up for $25 at best buy his weekend. I was able to side load xbmc and istream, both of which work, but I found istream to be slower in loading menus than the pc I have connected to the TV. Still really nice for the money and easy access to Amazon prime stuff.

Also sideloaded xmbc works really good for 25 dollar stick

Just got mine in the mail yesterday. Can't wait to get xbmc loaded.

So what can I do with XBMC?

I see Amazon won't get them back in stock until January. You can buy them locally now? This might be something to get the parents for Christmas. They just got Amazon Prime and were overjoyed about the movie selection.

I've got Fire TV. Think I'll give this a shot as well.

I've got a rooted FireTV (not needed for XBMC) and it's pretty much taken over as the media center hub. No idea how it compares to the Fire Stick but once you get the somewhat klunky way of sideloading apps figured out it's a breeze to use it to do all sorts of things it wasn't intended for but is plenty powerful enough to do.

Stream anything.
Is there a thread on XBMC?
I'm waiting on my fire stick and would like to take full advantage of it's capabilities. I am not familiar with XBMC, but am interested.

XBMC
Google it. Not sure of legality, but you can watch pretty much ANYTHING on it through various addons. Just have to find the right addons
XBMC is why there is/was such a high demand and high resale price for 2nd gen apple tv's (currently on 3rd gen) which were able to be jail broken.

Mine ship on the 11, good news for me since netfix is picking up Longmire.

this. I had ordered 2 from amazon for 19, but ordered 2 more from Staples yesterday for $21.50 each.
I was able to play the main title from a blu ray iso (streamed from a NAS) without any network or video slowdowns.

Here are details on using XBMC on the Fire Stick
To add to confusion:
There was software created in 2002 called Xbox Media Player that was compiled to run on the original (modded) XBOX.
Then it evolved into Xbox Media Center.
Then shortened to XBMC as it become multi-platform.
A couple months ago, XBMC changed its name to Kodi
TVMC is a customized android build of Kodi that has a script that automatically installs plugins.

has anyone figured out how to add a browser that supports flash to the fire stick?

Not impressed with this thing. I've gotten so used to being able to browse content on my phone and then just cast it to the TV with the Chromecast. The user of apps on the box tied with a crappy remote (especially if you have to type) means this thing will not replace my chromecasts.

This is what I'm confused about as well. I preordered mine in the 2-day special price period, and my first estimated delivery date was December 4th, next Thursday. I had an email either late night or early this morning from Amazon saying my new estimated date is Monday, December 1st. And I'm seeing that they are widely available in stores now. Seems like they could take care of the ones that preordered and get them out before shipping them to stores. Isn't that the whole point of a preorder? I'd be kind of mad if I preordered and had a delivery date in late December or early January and was at a Staples or Best Buy and saw a rack full of them. My delivery is just a week past the release date so it isn't that big of a deal but if I was ordering them for Christmas presents and couldn't have it from Amazon until a month out I would cancel and just buy one in a store.

There is an app to use for a controller that allows you to type with a keypad. Also, it will eventually be able to "fling" things to it from the phone. I would much rather have a stand alone item then one that requires a phone to use. So far I would rank them as Roku stick>firestick>chromecast, but like most things, it is all a matter of opinion.

Every time i try to use the piece of shite it tells me I have to reconnect the the network and when I put in the password it has authentication issues. Yes I am using the same password I have used to connect to it before.

Maybe stores preordered them just like the masses, but way before and in bulk.
