The object in soccer is to score goals.

and giving up too much possession wastes possession, which is wasting chances to score

You are now trying to use the fact that Lampard takes shots, scores goals, makes risky passes, and gets assists as negatives.

i like how you leave out the passes that lead to other teams getting scoring opportunities and shots that sail 10 yards over the goal constantly

His job isn't to score goals for Bayern, they have the best wing combination in the world with 2 strikers with an eye for goal. It would be dumb and selfish if he had an eye toward goal all the time.

Well playing out of the midfield with that kind of talent you would think he would have tons of assists then.

His job is getting the ball forward, not necessarily making the final pass.

Yea, he's really killing our offense. We only pretty much lead the world, or at least the major leagues, in goals scored. Maybe if Frank would stop scoring we would have even more!

Which is total speculation on your part. You have 0 idea how many times a bad Lampard pass has led to a goal. I can guarantee it's not even close to the 33 goals he has accounted for. Not even close.

on a team that is wing-cross based, when he plays more of a holding/defensive mid position?

you need to learn about opportunity

let's talk about CFB

were graham harrell and rothlisberger brennan the greatest NCAA QBs ever?

You need to learn, and I know this is going to be hard for you to accept, that you are not an expert on everything in the world.

No, and neither was Brandon Cox. What's your point?

He is right about the fact that Chelsea and Bayern play different styles of soccer. Lampard doesn't have much of a defensive obligation whereas Bastian Schweinsteiger's role is more of a distributor and to help keep the balance.

Again, I'm not saying Bastian is not good and I understand they don't play the exact same role. However, a world class midfielder should have more than 2 goals and 3 assists in 30+ games.

Correct. But, his job for Germany is different. He was the second best player at the Euros in 2008. Schweinswagga was a beast.

Pick a team with an American on it. I'd recommend Fulham or Everton in the EPL (easiest league to follow).

For US football, don't worry about following an MLS team. Pick one with a player you like or a stadium you could get to in driving distance, but support the closest geographic club in any league (USL, USL 2, etc)

I'm gonna actually back you on Lampard a bit. Guys on this board are way too hard on the guy. He puts up numbers, he makes great runs, and he's the leading scorer for the team that in all likelihood is going to win the EPL.

He is world class.

Lampard is a great midfielder but in no way does he just run away with the title of being the best at his position in the world. Gerrard had 60+ goals over the last 5 years to Frank's 70. And look at the shite he has to play with. Just saying, if Stevie would've moved to Chelsea Lampard would be a shadow of the player he is now.

I don't think he's the best central midfielder, but he's the best at that role he plays. He's not even really diamond midfielder, he's just an advanced mid who gets in really good positions and runs a ton (despite smoking a pack a day and eating like a lineman)
