As I said, east coast, mid-Atlantic states.

You're being ripped off. Drive ten minutes to a different grocery store.

I'm sure someone's addressed this already but do you think this might have to do with portion size. In the past a restaurant could add an extra filet of catfish or make their burgers a third of a pound instead of a quarter pound to separate themselves from the others and it didn't cut into the profits that much but now that's not the case. If you add up all the restaurants that used to do this but now don't that's a lot of protein.

I’m cheap if I’m eating at home and I want to get a bargain. I have been adding more filler to meals like potatoes, beans, riced cauliflower, rice etc to make my meat supply go further for more meals.

FFS my wife bought a 5 pack of NY strip yesterday from Costco and it was $66.
Wife and I went to Publix yesterday and I was sickened. We bought what we generally buy, but I’ve been traveling, and we haven’t grocery shopped in a while. Shite was $330 for a week’s worth, couple toiletries, fresh salmon was the most expensive, and normal stuff.
We don’t have kids either. I actually think it’s cheaper for two people to go out vs eating at home.

“Inflation” is just a way for retailers and middlemen to get more profit. They can blame the high prices on “inflation”. This is the most fricked up economy I’ve ever seen. Covid really did some fricked up things that may not be corrected for decades.

Ramen noodles.
Here's the perfect recipe for ramen:
1. Saute store-brand frozen Mexican vegetables in peanut oil
2. Add a small can of store-brand mushroom pieces and stems
3. Add one demicup of distilled water and simmer on low-to-medium heat for 15-20 minutes.
4. Add 1/2 packet of the ramen seasoning, plus pepper, cilantro, finely chopped onions, etc. for taste.
5. Cut off the heat and add crushed ramen noodles; allow the liquid to cook the noodles until soft; about 30 minutes.
Perfect meal done in less than one hour; it also helps to whip inflation now-- total cost of the meal is less than 3 bucks.

I think you are right. I know 20 people who could never lose weight who are now skinnier than they should be. That’s a lot of excess food not being eaten.
Walmart noted it in one of their public disclosures.

Who buys catfish? shite's free at the lakes and rivers. Deer, duck and fish. My arse has never bought freshwater fish at a grocery store. Maybe people are learning that being self sufficient isn't that hard. I know a ton of people with chickens now.

My family is buying sides of beef directly from the rancher, and having it processed. Better, fresher meat, and cost savings to boot.
I’ve considered opening a fresh meat market and getting a couple of refrigerated box trucks to go to the coast and buy shrimp, fish, oysters, crab right off the boats along with find a couple local farmers to supply beef and chicken. Cut out the middle man and processors and not only pay more to the farmers/fishermen than they’re currently getting but sell it lower than the stores. The gap is so large between producer and retailer you could provide better quality for less money pretty easily I think. Could even offer daily or weekly meat deliveries where you put in an order online and we drop it off at your door
Nobody does that type of service anymore.

Maybe they shouldn’t have jacked those prices up.
Farmers don’t set prices, processors do. What happened was supply ran short during covid and processors kept upping the price to try to get product to their plant over the competing ones so they wouldn’t have to short orders.
That’s normal. Now there is ample supply but less sales and processors have lowered prices hoping to increase sales. But it’s not happening because the distributors/retailers won’t reduce prices with the processor

quote:Most humans don't get nearly enough protein
1. Humans don't need anywhere near the amount of protein that the meat & dairy industry have propagandized that we do.
quote:This is complete and total nonsense
2. There is protein in almost everything you eat (that is real food). There is more protein in a pound of broccoli than there is a pound of steak (although a pound of broccoli is a LOT of broccoli).
quote:Who has said you can only get protein from meat and dairy?
The idea that protein only exists in meat & dairy is another propaganda piece.
All that broccoli has turned you into a soy boy go eat a steak baw

I eat the same things as usual. Unfortunately I am paying more.
