This is purely anecdotal but after hitting a few craft breweries the past two weekends I would say a lot of Americans are drinking their meals.

Mrs. Axe and I catch a shitload of catfish, bluegill and crappie every year, and so we've just kept more than usual this past couple years and are eating a lot more fish. It costs zero because I trap and net our own bait and already own tens of thousands of dollars worth of fishing rods and tackle. My garage looks like a Bass Pro Shops aisle and I have a fully functional 300 gallon homemade, aerated livewell under the carport. Seriously, my expensive fishing addiction has paid big dividends lately.

I’ve started doing more fishing and hunting myself including putting out my own crawfish traps.

I haven’t paid for crawfish in 2 years. frick those prices

I know we used to grill steaks, chicken, and sausage every week but that has changed to every 2-3 weeks or so.

FFS my wife bought a 5 pack of NY strip yesterday from Costco and it was $66.

For Strip? Thats ridiculous. I can find strip much cheaper just about anywhere.

As for me I bought a bigger deep freezer ( makes for 2 freezer/ refrigerator versions & 2 high capacity freezer versions) and stocked up heavily during Covid when prices of meat plummeted. In some cases I was able to get at 75% off. Vacuum sealed everything and dated. Eat meat knowing I have tenderloin on my plate at 3-5 per 12-16oz.

Friend,

There is plenty of protein to be found in vegetables, but by the ounce, beef has 9x more protein than broccoli. Tofu, chickpeas, almonds, lentils, and edamame are better sources of plant protein than broccoli. America would be much healthier if we got more of our protein from steamed or roasted vegetables than beef and pork. And if we walked at least ten miles each day. Cars and cities designed for cars rather than people may be the biggest health risk of all, and alcohol.

Yours,
TulaneLSU

P.S. The Sam’s in Mobile has Connecuh sausage for $4.50/lb. NY strips at Winn Dixie were $8.99/lb last week, or $3/serving.

Chicken producers are struggling really bad apparently. As are beef.

The wife (nopics) tried to buy a 3lb pack of ground beef (not chuck, just beef) last week. It was $22. At WalMart.

She put it back so I'm eating turkey chili (which is actually pretty tasty).

Where's the brunt of cost increase coming from? Are producers having to charge more because feed costs have increased? Is it gasoline prices for transportation? Processing?

What planet are you living on?

Broccoli = 12.9 grams protein

Steak = 112 grams protein

We've been eating more soup. Chicken tortilla soup, for example will last us for three meals using the same amount of chicken we would eat in one meal if we grilled it.

Finding ways to stretch a dollar is a real thing.

High food prices of a year or two ago did what high food prices always do---the prices created more production than the demand could absorb.

Animal proteins contain all essential amino acids which plant proteins do not. Anecdotally I feel much better when I eat a lot of meat and restrict my veggies. Veggies are inflammatory and bloat you with gas. And there's a reason why God made steak taste like heaven and Brussel sprouts taste like unwashed arse. And there's a reason my dog will fight me for a bite of red meat and run from a head of broccli like its a shock collar.

Lots of people trying to slim down as well.

The guy that said ozempic may actually be close to the truth. Friend of mine has lost 50lbs on that stuff and doesn’t consume near what he used to

I do my part. Had a catfish and shrimp platter yesterday at lunch. Burgers on grill last night. 20 oz ribeye and sausage Sunday night. I have 3 deep freezers full of meat. Venison sausage, minute steaks, burger. Half a cow. 45 lbs of chicken wings. Countless bags of rainbow trout, redfish, speckled trout, and sheepshead. Crappie and Bass fillets. Couple boxes of catfish fillets, 20 lbs of gulf shrimp.

I’m going to cry if I ever lose power and it all spoils. Probably be out 7-8 grand worth of meat

Yep. A measured policy designed to kill off the population. A move based on profoundly disordered Climate Change absurdity. You cringe? Remember you're dealing with people who kill babies. Many of those babies killed while dangling from the birth canal.

Evil people this bunch.

I have plenty of beef that a local slaughterhouse kills and packages for me.

Trade a steer for freezers full of beef.

Past 3 years we've been eating more venison. Everything is expensive and most of it is hard to trust what they put into the animals.
