This is why I cannot quit him.

To answer your legal question- these are all within his authority as President. They all fall within his enforcement powers.

The only thing I think he would be legally prohibited from doing is retroactively ending birthright citizenship. But going forward- he can.

Congress needs to end it permanently. These are great stopgaps.

You would think that after four years in the White House Trump would know what powers the president has. He’s not a dictator.

Stuff like this is concerning.

So he's just promising more of the same stuff of what he already didn't deliver on in his 4 years as president?

Economics say it will fail spectacularly.

This Spotlight studies three categories of illegal activity: drugs, prostitution, and gambling. These three categories are not equal in their recent economic impact. Consumer spending on illegal drugs was $153 billion in 2017, compared to $4 billion on illegal prostitution and $11 billion on illegal gambling

Prohibition efforts simply change the methods of distribution and offer more dangerous alternatives. Its economics.

1. Federal Workers. Fire thousands of federal employees he deems are “the deep state” and move several agencies out of Washington.

Due to federal civil service unionization, you can't just summarily fire them. You can shut down their agencies, thus de facto firing them, but you can't just shrink headcount like that.

quote:

2. Agencies. Assert independent control over the Federal Trade Commission and Federal Communications Commission.

What's the goal here? The President already has some ability to do this with appointments. Giving a President carte blanche is fine for a President you agree with, it could be disastrous for a President who supports something like a "Truth Commission". Be very careful what you wish for...

quote:

3. Spending. Revive the so-called impoundment power, which presidents have asserted to refuse to spend money appropriated by Congress.

I thought this was pretty common already?

quote:

4. Citizenship. Issue an EO ending constitutional right to birthright citizenship.

I see what he's trying to do here (since most acknowledge the 14th was meant for the children of slaves in the aftermath of the Civil War), but it's like trying to hold back a flood with a screen door. Even if the EO held up, any other President could come in and undo it with the stroke of a pen (depending on SCOTUS opinion at the time, apparently). Do it right or don't do it at all (ie: push a repeal/replacement of the 14th).

quote:

5. Law Enforcement. Defund the FBI and DOJ

This will never happen. Congress alone would tie this up in legal limbo until well after Trump was out of office. Just the throwing it out there is nothing but red meat for the ignorant.

quote:

6. Immigration. Carry out the “largest deportation operation” in US history and send thousands of US troops to the Texas/Mexico border.

This could be done. See: Operation Wetback.

quote:

7. Drugs. Order the Navy to enforce a full embargo to prevent fentanyl and other drugs from entering the country.

Uhm... what? Most fentanyl comes across the southern border. Will the US Navy police all of Central and South America? We have a great navy, but even it has limits.

quote:

8. Trade. Impose a 10% tariff on nearly all imported goods.

Only if you similarly cut taxes on domestic producers (where at least 80% of a product and its parts are manufactured and assembled in the US). You can't spur growth just by cutting imports.
quote:

9. China. Impose restrictions on Chinese ownership of infrastructure in the US.

frick yeah!!

quote:

10. Housing. Build new housing cities on federal land.

Uhm... Section 8?

quote:

11. Homelessness. Relocate thousands of homeless to newly-created tent cities.

Where? What state would possibly accept them? Are we talking tent cities? Will this be in conjunction with #10?

As a corollary, if I visit a country which does not have an extradition treaty with the United States, am I still subject to US jurisdiction while residing there?

Some is 100% bogus. Some is garnered from talkshow comments. None is a Trump Campaign Release as far as I can tell.

Since a lot of people are touching on the homeless piece:

Homelessness (at least the permanent kind) is primarily driven by mental health and substance abuse. I would absolutely be in favor of setting up mental health and in-patient substance abuse centers around the US and forcing homeless into them. If someone has such a severe mental health or substance abuse issue that they are on the street, then they cannot generally coexist within our societal structure. If they are committing crimes, as many do, then this is doubly true.

You could call it a camp or whatever you want, but our country should not have hundreds of thousands of homeless people walking the streets when we already spend massive amounts of money to "help" them in the most inefficient and useless manners.

International law norms for one (Diplomatic immunity)

You don't have to bring illegals into court. You can probe they have no right to be here and toss them out the back door.

Without a court, what's stopping them from arresting and deporting you?

Because I'm a citizen and can prove it. My mom squatted by the side of the road on her way to San Antonio shouldn't make you a citizen.

Trump is great at throwing out dramatic, flamboyant plans with no steps or desire to follow through.

Most of these points are harmless to everyone, including the people he intents to conquer.

The idea of "blockading" the cartels is so goddamned childish..

The example I made would be if a rouge I.C.E. arrest and deports you. Without a habeas petition (in the court system) you're screwed pal
