Slavery was at one time the law of the land, women didn't have the right to vote, by law, segregation, homosexuality was illegal was it the American thing to do to support those things...?

I'm just asking...

I bet Obama is glad Lincoln didn't feel the same fricking way.

Edit: More&Les - damn you seriously, it's a dipshit position. Liberals are retards

Republicans have done all they can to sabotage this program, even wasting time and money trying to defund it, yet they have not offered an alternative to it.

The alternative is the way things used to be where individuals made their own decisions without government mandates, which worked perfectly fine for the VAST majority of people.

Why, all those low-income folks need to do is stop spending money on luxuries like cable television and cell phones!

I dislike Obama as much as anybody, and hat Obamacare even more. But, there is some truth to this statement.

Though, if a conservative spoke the same truth, he/she would be crucified.

Sorry, that analogy doesn't work. You make the assumption that people who buy into the program will get no benefit from it, while millions surely will. I don't know how you can compare being a slave to having to buy health insurance.

If items such as cell phones and cable tv are such luxuries, why won't the government stop subsidizing these items?

That way they would have more funds for Medicaid or other "important" programs for the poor?

WOW!!

We should wholly support every law, no matter how stupid just because it's the American thing to do.

That is beyond stupid.

no

it's a sign of government intervention and over-insurance. how does the ACA fix the problems when it triples down on them?

And millions will benefit less from the program, while paying more.

White folks would benefit greatly from slavery. Lotta guys named Hunter would be in the NBA

OK then. The law of the land is that the government can spy on you without a warrant, hold you as an enemy combatant with no charges and no access to an attorney, or even murder you via drone strike. The law of the land is that the government can seize your property under forfeiture laws without charging you with a crime or giving you the opportunity to defend yourself.

Government mandating personal responsibility negates any personal responsibility. Burgers are now illegal unles you buy at least 5 salads for your previous meal. What? Can't afford the burger? Oh well. Should be eating salad anyway. Better to miss a meal than eat that burger. Nevermind that you worked for that money and should be able to spend it - or not spend it - on anything you want.

You think Obamacare will in any way improve that or that the old health insurance is the primary cause?

I don't believe that I said that. What I am saying is that to sabotage the program at this juncture is both stupid and costly. 18% of our GDP goes towards health care and the Republican efforts to make this a failure is costing us (like $28 billion for the govt shutdown). Its a negative approach to solving the problem and it isn't working, it is only worsening the situation.
