Interesting new research data on guns in America

Folks are going to read into this what they want to....but basically, it's very common sensed and tells us nothing more than what an avg level headed American would have guessed with just a little perspective.

Aside from geography, race/ethnicity also played a role in gun death rates. The national rate of gun deaths was twice as high among black people as it was among whites. The researchers noted, however, that the number of black people killed as a result of gun violence fell in seven states and the District of Columbia. Meanwhile, gun deaths involving white people fell in only four states.

I've said all along that we don't have a gun problem in America. We have an out of control violence within the black community problem in America. The proof is in the pudding everywhere you look. None of my guns have ever committed a crime of any sort and never will as long as I own them.

He drew his conclusion based on the fact the gun violence was twice as high for blacks.

They will be passed to my son/ other heirs when I pass away. If you go back and read my original statement on this, my claim is substantiated when I say "as long as I own them."

I watch my local New Orleans news every morning and evening for one. The daily repeating shootings within the black community are proof that this is the case. It is also the case across most inner city urban American communities. You will never get true statistics on the racial breakdown of violent crimes in America, however. Everyone is scared to be labeled a racist while continuing to ignore the pressing issue. All you truly have to do is get your head out of your arse and pay attention to the happenings around you to know this is the case. This is how I drew my conclusion.

I have looked and can't find if this study included economic factors. I would bet a coca-cola that poor white people get shot at about the same rate as poor black people. I would bet that as income goes up the odds of being shot go down across the board regardless of a persons skin color. This would, of course, debunk the myth that black people are inherently violent and we can't have that in the United States....and of course CBS, the liberal mainstream media, does not do any research to see if the problem is race or socio-economic....because race baiting sales airtime....

Socioeconomic status has always been a far more reliable predictor of criminal proclivity than race.

Suggesting that skin color has anything at all to do with this fact is bad science and anyone with any intellectual honesty will admit that. You can't find anything other than anecdotal evidence that violence is more prevalent in black communities because they are black communities because no such evidence exists.
Ya'll make this same claim about black communities and public assistance, claiming that skin color is the reason the number of people in such communities receive some sort of public assistance at higher rates than those on white neighborhoods....again true if you compare the two on skin color....but if you look at economic factors alone you will see that income level has far more to do with receiving public assistance than does race. Mainstream CBS would never report a study that suggests that black people receive public assistance because they are black but they have no problem with the thinly veiled race baiting of suggesting skin color has anything at all to do with violent crime....

I don't think anyone is stating that there's a genetic marker found in black people that causes them to shoot each other. The fact is, in poor urban areas the population is predominately black in most areas of the country. To say that there is a gun control problem in the black community is not an attempt at racism, it is just stating the interpretation of the facts. The reasoning is socioeconomic status and the culture it has created for that community for sure, but we can't overlook that there is a problem so that we don't sound racist. Yes there is probably an equal about of white crime when put in the same conditions. But there aren't as many white people in the same condition.

The study does not differentiate in some very key areas:
1. Justified Self Defense
2. Suicide
These are greatly warping the data and paints the picture that the sky is falling.

I'll call your coca cola and raise you a ginger ale. The stats aren't even close. Also, considering there are many more poor white people in the U.S. than blacks due to a higher population the percentages are even more disturbing. I don't have time to look it up, but find the number of blacks killed by guns compared to number of whites, then break down the percentages. A ginger ale says they aren't even close.
I'll gladly eat crow if I'm wrong.

More poor people view crime as a legitimate economic activity because:
A. They're surrounded by it, and
B. They have nothing to lose.
Race has been a reliable proxy for class (and vice versa) for much of America's history. As the black middle class grows, increasingly it will have more in common with the white middle class, than poor people of either race.
That's been true. Unfortunatley, the "War on Poverty" set back the black middle class for almost 2 generations now.

Yes to A, but no , frick no, to B. It's not poverty. It's culture.

And that's another thing - gun control in the U.S. was started in earnest during Reconstruction in mis-guided efforts to disarm freedmen. They were forming militias and many of them got into scrapes (and worse) with white militias and government officials. And there is plenty of fault to go around for these scrapes.
Now - outside of the black middle class in rural and suburban areas, any sort of law abiding gun ownership for protection is a lost tradition among blacks. Ergo, armed blacks have both a criminal "tradition" and a disarmed victim pool (a victim pool of poor, largely undereducated blacks who are trapped in violent, urban $hitholes, governed by liberals, black and white, who don't understand that depriving sovereign, law-abiding citizens of the right to self-defense, actively encourages and increases violent crime.)
