Why the rolled eyes? Why can't they respect the religious beliefs of their employees? Being employed shouldn't require someone to violate their religious beliefs and conscience. Its not that difficult. Just get someone else to take the guys place in the parade. Too many people make too many things way too difficult.

Because law enforcement doesn't get to pick and choose what assignments they want. That's called insubordination to refuse orders. He made this difficult on himself. He was there to provide crowd control, not get on a float and dance.

You deny that most "gay pride" marches and festivals include massive numbers of naked men? And that these naked men are never arrested?

You said they are marching for indecent exposure. No they are not. They aren't marching for the right to expose their naked bodies in public. That's what you said.

Also, they aren't naked. If they were, they would get arrested just like everyone else.

Again, so much ignorance in your post.

No, I said they don't allow the officers to arrest any of the people marching for indecent exposure. Not all of the people marching should be charged with that, just the ones who are, in fact, naked.

Lies. I know officers who have worked these things in five different cities (New Orleans, Nashville, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Chicago). They all said that they are not allowed to arrest anybody at these events.

Using this logic, Westboro would never be afforded police protection since everyone thinks they're assholes. It doesn't work that way. It's called law enforcement, not personal belief enforcement. As long as your assignment doesn't violate the law you are obligated to complete it. Don't like it? Turn in your badge.

So I can safely assume it would be acceptable to you for a Muslim police officer to walk away from a domestic violence call if the wife was being disobedient of her husband?

You're ignorant (I mean that in the literal sense). Go look at some stuff on google. And prepare your rods and cones. It ain't pretty.

Gay Pride parades were listed on MSN Travel as one of the top places to get naked.

San Fran allows public nudity. Breeders and Mos. You won't find nudity anywhere else in the US

bullshite. I've seen guys get arrested in Nola. And you're probably lying about the rest as well. Link pics of nudity in the Nashville gay parade.

How this thread made it 8 pages really cements the level of retard in this place. Lol @ officers thinking they get to pick who they protect and serve! Hate crime against a gay couple being assaulted comes over the radio? I think I'll pass on that one and let those homo's fend for themselves. Find someone else!

I'm perfectly fine with the officer in question being suspended for refusing an assignment. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the police department's decision there. But then we get to the second quote where the PD Chief says they do not tolerate bias or bigotry, and that an internal investigation is underway. That's where Chief Jones loses me. If this officer turned down the assignment on religious grounds then that is his first amendment right. It is still the right of the police department to suspend him from duty for refusing the assignment, but I think they lose the high ground by calling him a bigot and launching an internal investigation.

Your proof is an anecdote from MSN and an anecdote from the 2006 Pride Parade in SF - where nudity and such behavior is well known and tolerated? Excellent analysis.
