I actually don't think it's a bad idea.
As done by WFB on PBS years ago, great idea. Two opposing views being reasonably debated in an atmosphere of mutual respect.
As done on cable news, terrible idea. Crossfire started the trend of hacks yelling talking points past each other.
I say terrible in terms of addressing the issues. It'll probably get ratings. A segment of the population enjoys that kind of shit, obviously.
ETA, I think Point/Counterpoint on 60 minutes predated Crossfire by a few years.
