How many follow the original Greek text?

What do you mean? Who reads it? Mostly priests, seminarians, monks, and likely some linguists and scholars.

Yeah no thanks. As long as the trash Quran and Hadith exist there will be violence.

The frantic scrambling in search of a gotcha by the simpleminded is quite amusing.

I'm wondering the relevance of this to machine's point.

okay, the books of the bible i've been quoting were writing circa 1920 years give or take a century.
You mean the translations, right? Bible translators don't start from scratch and make up the bible off the top of their head as they go when they come up with a new translation. They read the manuscripts written in Hebrew and Greek and attempt to translate those words into whatever modern language they are working on. It's why seminaries typically require students to pass classes in both languages before graduating, so they can read the original languages to understand the nuances of the texts that our translations may not pick up on due to things being lost in translation.

and when you say "it" you of course mean the oldest complete copies of the gospels which date to the third century, a couple of hundred years after the original copies were taken down.

but i'm sure the authenticity in the message of those from 100+ years after they were written, written down half a century after Jesus' death, are super accurate

frick off.

I like HempHead and we'll likely have a reasonable discussion about this.

Gross.
I mean... aren't they having to pass out pamphlets telling them not to rape? Didn't they have to put up signs around the public pools to let them know they aren't supposed to shite in them? Wasn't there also a story not too long ago about the government asking women to dress more modestly? What about the story about the guy getting off rape charges because of "cultural differences"?

These people who push this sort of nonsense are either hopelessly naive or in positions that insulate them from ever experiencing the fallout from this sort of madness.

well you mentioned two facts then starting laughing like you just had a gotcha moment. It didn't really make sense because the original texts were most likely in Greek. I was trying to give the benefit of the doubt and assume your "gotcha" involved the date which was also incorrect because the actual writing down took place a while after Jesus the historical figure walked the Earth.

Perhaps, perhaps not. This wasn't my assertion. I'm simply saying that the source documents for our English interpretations often have words or concepts that are not easily and directly translatable. Especially for that particular passage you quoted, the lack of an English equivalent can easily change personal interpretations of text.

the ambiguity is why i take it all with a grain of salt.

'love they neighbor' yeah okay i can get behind that.

'I'm the son of God sent here to save your eternal soul if you just believe in me' nah that sounds like some mind control shite added on later to control the peasants

if so, choke on the biggest of dicks

We take for granted the accuracy and reliability of other historic texts whose earliest surviving manuscripts were much, much older than when they were supposedly penned. The Biblical texts have had much more scrutiny applied to them (as they should) and have held up remarkably well.

which kind of makes the Minister's point absurd, no?

*I see Y.A. already made this point

What does the bible say about the guests that you invite in who then take your teenage daughters and turn them into sex dolls to be shared with other visitor / traveller types? Like say in Rotherham, England.

Should we just turn the other cheek?

What the West can learn from Islam:
- Letting women vote leads to excessive emotion in policy decisions about who to let in
- When women can't drive, traffic accidents per million miles traveled go down.
- Countries that do not have feminism have better family structures
