That's a meme started by Rove to explain his delay. If Bush needed Blanco's sign off on troops, then he'd still be waiting today because she never signed off.

That doesn't mean he wasn't waiting for her blessing on it initially. Yes, he eventually said 'frick it' and sent everyone in. One could reasonably argue too late, but that still doesn't make your narrative make sense.

What exactly would you have him do with these children? Dump them in the hot sun of Mexico with no food and water?

List the things you want done with those children and then list the things Obama is doing.

Don't be naive. There was plenty of fricking corruption related to the disaster with many people in the area.

I would have him quit letting them in and the flow would stop ASAP.

Why would anyone let an unaccompanied minor in?? It was a stupid policy.

Mexico is not broke. They would not let kids starve in the desert.

You're a tool of Rove. Bush wasn't waiting for her blessing. This is what Bush was doing:

The night Katrina hit, Blanco called him at 2 am and said "please send me all you've got." Bush said "will do" and went to bed.

If you doubt me I'll cite the articles confirming this.

House them, feed them, give medical care while we find out their countries of origin. Tell said countries that flights will start arriving in one month. If they need short term help setting up receiving stations and medical care while they figure out what to do with the immigrants than I am open to that.

It's not about being "naive." There's been no evidence that he was doing anything shady in the IMMEDIATE aftermath of the storm (i.e., before the feds rolled in). If there was, it would have come out in his corruption trial. Yes, he went to shite at some point thereafter, and there's many things that would reasonably suggest he basically broke down in the IMMEDIATE aftermath, but that wasn't corruption.

I don't think you needed to order people to leave the area when they're sitting in 100 degree temps with no food and water.

Each and every time you guys say we defend Obama at every turn while you guys criticized Bush, you turn around and defend him at every turn. This is yet another example.

Let's bet. Self ban for one month. You in?

Here's a timeline. Self correction. The time was 8 pm

LINK

LATE MORNING — LEVEE BREACHED: “A large section of the vital 17th Street Canal levee, where it connects to the brand new ‘hurricane proof’ Old Hammond Highway bridge, gave way late Monday morning in Bucktown after Katrina’s fiercest winds were well north.” [Times-Picayune]
11AM CDT — BUSH VISITS ARIZONA RESORT TO PROMOTE MEDICARE DRUG BENEFIT: “This new bill I signed says, if you’re a senior and you like the way things are today, you’re in good shape, don’t change. But, by the way, there’s a lot of different options for you. And we’re here to talk about what that means to our seniors.” [White House]
4:30PM CDT — BUSH TRAVELS TO CALIFORNIA SENIOR CENTER TO DISCUSS MEDICARE DRUG BENEFIT: “We’ve got some folks up here who are concerned about their Social Security or Medicare. Joan Geist is with us. … I could tell — she was looking at me when I first walked in the room to meet her, she was wondering whether or not old George W. is going to take away her Social Security check.” [White House]
8PM CDT — RUMSFELD ATTENDS SAN DIEGO PADRES BASEBALL GAME: Rumsfeld “joined Padres President John Moores in the owner’s box…at Petco Park.” [Editor & Publisher]
8PM CDT — GOV. BLANCO AGAIN REQUESTS ASSISTANCE FROM BUSH: “Mr. President, we need your help. We need everything you’ve got.” [Newsweek]
LATE PM — BUSH GOES TO BED WITHOUT ACTING ON BLANCO’S REQUESTS [Newsweek]

Why would we give a shite about your articles? You know people in the state actually know shite that went down and don't need their talking points from the fricking media.

Not buying your bullshite narrative =/= "defending Bush"

He moved too late, but your narrative is a load of crap.

No, it is not. It is a delineation of federal versus state/local authorities. The tragedy that happened in New Orleans was a direct result of a failure by Mayor Nagin and Governor Blanco. There was no federal response (NONE) that could have immediately overcame the failure on their part. His failure was taking a hands off approach and letting his FEMA director handle the matter. In a disaster of that magnitude he should have been more engaged. And he should have landed, despite what his staff advised him.

Stop whitewashing/ignoring the Democratic leadership failures in Katrina. If you want to let President Obama off the hook for Iraq (which is fine with me - Bush's fault) then you have to let President Bush off the hook for Katrina (Nagin's and Blanco's fault).
