If it was suicide - he probably chose that angle to not create panic until it was too late.

I ask again ... how do they KNOW it was a pilot and not say a male steward knocking on the door?

Ya maybe. As said earlier the suicides we know of were straight dives. Of course, suicide pilots are so rare I don't think we should make any assumptions on how a plane would act with such a pilot at the helm.

Hell Malaysian airlines may have been that and he flew all over the place

I can't answer that.

But your question has been acknowledged and you will be credited if correct.

Probably not

And also it wouldn't matter since no one could get through the door to stop him. He'd let them panic all they want.

yurin, it's a feasible possibility. Unless the recorder has something about a pilot EXITING the cockpit then of course my idea would be out of the window.

eta: and thanks for the acknowledgement. lol It's not often that happens. I'm the mom so I'm always wrong.

Maybe all the stewards were female?

Further, maybe it wasn't the other pilot slamming against the door, but I suppose the fact it started with a knock and built up to ramming (according to reports) supports that conclusion.

I doubt a passenger would start with a knock

I'm not even sure they heard voices. May have just heard the door being rammed. I suppose this tape will be played soon enough?

Probably. They're all almost universally female or gay males.

Good point about them being possibly all female Teddy ... the last few flights I've been on we had at least 1 male. And I also doubt that a passenger would be gently knocking.

The sound of the door opening is easy to hear in a flight recorder not to mention one pilot probably said "you have control" and said he had to run to the bathroom. You don't just get up and leave the cockpit silently.

Wouldn't the voice recorder pick up cabin conversation? "I'm going to be right back ... gotta pee" ... seems like convo would be on the tapes.

One of the pilots here could answer...do you have to put it on the radio, like officially state that you're leaving the cockpit. It has to be documented right?

Guy just said that the plane hit a 26 degree bump and went down slowly. This entire situation is so fishy

No, you tell the other pilot to take control and you are running to the bathroom, call back to the flight attendant and have them move the cart to block the aisle so no one can rush the open door.

ETA: my knowledge is dated... I am wrong about this. I guess I have not been noticing the FA entering.

OK so I actually clicked on the link ... was previously just going by what was posted. Said that YES it was known that a pilot left the cabin but for unknown reasons. THAT makes sense. Yes, I'm a dope -- read the link first. Always. Or at least sometimes.

evidence from a cockpit voice recorder indicated one pilot left the cockpit before the plane’s descent and was unable to get back
