This is such a drawn out story - I just don't see an end in sight. There is so much going on . . . and 100s of ways this thing can splinter.

I think the author feels the same way.

I know, I feel like I've only gotten 5-6 hours a sleep each night from watching it.

i think he's got them done. He just can't release them because he wants to make TV history since no one knows the ending.

I read where he's working on two new books, but in the past he had no real deadline to finish, and as a result he could plot and insert really good stuff to make things flow really well for readers. A feast for crows and dance of dragons had a 5-year window for releases for example. Now, because of the show, it's stressing him out big time that he has this pressure to get ahead of things. That's not unexpected of course but MY personal fear is that rushing new material out might compromise the integrity of the ending-- not the way Martin would prefer it and we get something more subtle and predictable.

They already said that the new season will pass the books.

Ole fatass can stop "worrying". He just doesn't know how to finish it. Or is more worried about a "shocking ending" than the right one

I've just read things here and there concerning the books and the show and get many different, vague answers. You guys are in the know, so will the events of season 5 cover all the currently published books? If so, I know the series has been given the green light for a season 6 already and the next book (Winds of Winter) may not be available until after this year. So, simple math puts season 6 of the show, I would think, 2-3 years away unless they skip ahead - which Martin is part of the creative team and could keep everything in line. The show runners have not said that would be the last season either.

Is it true Martin also said he'd like to end it with a movie? If that is so, and if it is R-rated (and it would have to be to please fans) how much money can it really make in the U.S.? I'm sure the overseas markets would make it a massive success.

The show will not wait for the books. GRRM has reportedly told the show runners how it all ends, but without the details that go in between. Probably why the show is diverging more and more from the books. In the end, they may be similar, but different stories.

You are underestimating how much material there is left to show.

Fatty mc Fatterson wants 8 books, and the show hasn't even finished covering all of 5. They've got a lot left in the tank

The movie thing is intriguing, but really it's just like 3 episodes strung together...so what's the point? The market would be huge though

GRRM wants 8 books now? I don't think there's a lot left considering 4&5 tell the same stories and they already had stuff last season that hasn't happened in the books yet.
