what is the M/TV boards thoughts on these?
the original 3 were some of my favorite films from the 90s
I loved all of them in their own way but clear and present danger was one of my all time favorite movies.
I didn't mind sum of all fears and I recently saw shadow recruit on a plane and it was decent, but Baldwin and Ford are the greatest IMO.

I like Patriot Games a lot. The latest one with Chris Pine was absolute shite.

The Hunt for Red October is the best one.

I always forget about Red October. Love those movies. Didn't see Sum of all Fears or the Chris Pine one, though.

Baldwin had the best movie but Ford was the best Ryan by far.

They completely changed the villian in SOAF. Basically re-invented the nazis.
It was a very good book. I'm a fan of the original 3, but was horrified by the most recent version.

Sum is the only one I don't really like mainly for the massive changes to the plot.
Sure Ford was too old but I like his movies and Hunt is awesome. I refused to see the silly reboot. They have plenty of novels that could be made into films and they went with new content. Blurp!

I need to re-watch Hunt for Red October.
Patriot Games is my favorite.
In Clear and Present Danger I hated Willem Dafoe as John Clark, and thought Chavez was was too goofy.
Sum of All Fears was OK.
Shadow Recruit pleasantly surprised me.

Without Remorse with Tom Hardy as John Clark. We need this.

This book has been in developmental hell for over 20 fracking years!

Which one was with Ben Affleck?

HFRO is one of my favorites. Well done and stays true to its source material with the changes made more so due to tech restraints than anything else.
Clear and Present Danger wasn't terrible, although it deviates from the book pretty seriously. Patriot Games is my least favorite. Nothing like the book. If I hadn't read it, I probably wouldve liked it more.
The rest are shite. The new Jack Ryan was just okay, and I don't get the point of an original story when there are so many good novels they haven't done anything with.

frick no Tom Hardy is way too old. John Clark is in his early 20s in Without Remorse. Give me Liam Hemsworth or someone around that age.

I enjoyed Clear and Present Danger. Other than that one the only other one I remember clearly was The Hunt for Red October. I think it's pretty awesome, but looking back Sean Connery as a Russian is kind of ridiculous.

Willem Dafoe's character was one of the biggest reasons that I am partial to Clear and Present Danger. I never read the books though, so I don't have any preconceptions of what the characters are supposed to be. My Dad was really into them though and would tell me some of what the characters were actually like in the books.
Sum of All Fears seemed like it didn't capture the same political intrigue feel as the other movies in my opinion. It just seemed mostly like a generic spy/action movie to me. It was pretty good but mostly forgettable.

Actually a Lithuanian based on a Soviet (ethnically lithuanian) sub tender captain who defected. I always wondered if there were any non slav sub commanders after that.
